Page 7 of Finding Her Home

“So sorry to disturb you, I’m just popping out to take a phone call.” Vic watched dumbly as Julia’s gaze dropped to a sleeping Hyzenthlay and without doubt, also Vic’s exposed nipple. Julia looked almost adoringly at Hyzenthlay and the nipple and smiled before she headed out into the corridor.

“Lovely to see you both.” Julia’s voice was rich and disarming. Vic was suddenly incapable of any words.

God, she is so fucking attractive.

Julia had to head back to London following her phone call. Her driver was waiting for her as she headed out of the castle. She couldn’t get over what she had felt seeing Victoria and Hyzenthlay. There was a warmth to Victoria when she was with her baby that Julia had never seen in her. Julia couldn’t get that final image out of her mind, that of Vic relaxing in the big chair with Hyzenthlay sleeping in her arms, her tiny eyelashes flickering and her light brown hair messy and streaked with gold, like her mum’s.

Vic’s face had been relaxed, she looked lovely relaxed, not angry and serious like she often looked. Her hard edges were smoothed out suddenly and her dirty shirt was off.

Her breast had been out of her bra. It was full with milk and her nipple was swollen and plump from feeding her daughter.

As much as Julia tried to fight the feeling, she realised it had turned her on seeing Victoria’s breast exposed like that. She could have taken the other door out of the dining room if she had wanted to. She had known Victoria was breastfeeding, but she had wanted to see her before she left. Was she some kind of pervert? If she was honest with herself, she had also found it erotic when she watched Victoria give birth, naked in a pool. It was sensual, there was music. Victoria’s body had been beautiful and so amazing in what it had done that night.

Oh god, stop it, Julia.

Julia closed her eyes and leant her head back in the back of the car as they headed back to London. All she could think of was Victoria. She couldn’t stop herself. She couldn’t remember the last time she had felt these kinds of feelings. It was Helen, first meeting Helen all those years ago. Julia had dated a little since Helen had died, but not much, not with any real intent. There had been plenty of suitable women, but that hadn’t been enough for Julia. She had felt like there should be more, like there needed to be more. And here she was, the wrong side of fifty, yearning after some wild, younger woman who swore far too much and who thrived on being a lone wolf. Julia felt almost embarrassed by herself.

Victoria had been awkward today as she always had been, but Julia realised she found it endearing. Victoria had been anything but awkward in those hours they had spent together with the midwife and the birthing pool. Victoria had been open and chatty then.

Ugh. Stop it, Julia. You are at least 15 years older than her.

Julia was thrust back into the real world when she heard her phone ringing in her purse. She took it out and looked at the screen.

Mum

“Hey,” she said as she answered.

“Hello, my darling.” Julia smiled hearing her mother’s warm voice all the way from New York. “I know you are working and you must be busy, but I just wanted you to know that I was thinking of you.”

Julia laughed. “What were you thinking of, Mum?”

“I was just thinking how lucky I am to have such an amazing, talented, wonderful, beautiful daughter who I am so proud of every day.”

Julia smiled. “I think you have got me mixed up with someone else.”

“Oh no, my little Julie. It is definitely you. Where are you?”

“Oh, I’m in a car, just heading back into London to the palace.”

“I won’t keep you, sweetheart. I’m looking forward to seeing you later in the year.”

“I can’t wait, Mum. I love you.”

“I love you too, my darling. You have a good day, and just don’t you forget how amazing you are.”

Julia smiled and tipped her head back as the call ended. Her mum always made any day better.

Before she was even aware they were close, the car pulled to a halt and Julia opened her eyes. Back in London. Back at the palace. Work to do. Pull yourself together.

She took a deep breath and stepped out of the car and up the steps to the palace.

“Good afternoon, Ms Wilding.” Multiple calls of good afternoon came to her from the staff of the palace. Julia was popular and well respected and she enjoyed that. Julia swept down the luxurious, red-carpeted grand hallway.

This was her job, this was her true love, the career she had always wanted. This was exactly where she belonged.
