“Not my finest moment, but yes.”

I sucked in a deep breath and let the image of his face burn into my brain before I said something I didn’t want to, but knew I needed to. “You have an image to uphold. It’s just part of your job. I get it.”

“And?”

“You can’t be caught in a throuple. If you choose her, I can be okay with it.”

“I’m not okay with that.”

A yearning ache jolted through me at the pain in his voice.

“We’re playing a dangerous game,” I warned.

“What if we walk away? It sounds pretty damn painful.”

I winced, and he kept going.

“And what if we hurt her?”

I balled my hands into fists and took a shaky breath. “We can’t hurt her.” I didn’t want Mac hurt, either. But I couldn’t see a way where it worked with all three of us.

Would I always be on the outside? Would I be able to rely on him the way I would make sure he could always rely on me?

“I know. And I never would on purpose. Pink incites this protective instinct I didn’t know I had. It’s not like she needs protecting—she’s a damn spitfire of a woman, knowing exactly what she wants…”

I studied him. The way his face radiated as he talked about her. And I knew that this was only going to work if it was all three of us. He brought something to us I couldn’t. I didn’t have a name for it, but it was a special vibe that only Mac Savage could offer.

We were better as three than we were individually.

Still, I hesitated to tell him that.

I knew Mac loved her. It was written all over his face every time he looked at her. But could he protect her? Would he choose her safety and comfort over his reputation?

Would he choose me if it got too hard?

I wasn’t convinced.

“It hurt when you ghosted me. But if you ever hurt Em, I don’t know that I could forgive you.”

“I’m all in with her, Bardot. All in.”

I wanted to ask him if he was all in with me, too.

Was he all in with us?

But someone called my name, and I spun around, not recognizing the voice.

“Bash, over here.”

I shielded my eyes from a streetlamp. Across the street, a man frantically waved as he rushed over to us.

Bryce.

I groaned, and Mac’s eyes widened. “Who is that?”

“Em’s ex.”

“The one—”
