“You think I ghosted you?” Mac’s face fell, and I reached for his hand. Bash noticed. “You’re so closed off that I thought you regretted being with me.”

Bash sneered, and my heart broke for him. He was always grumbly and serious, but never ever bitter. Not like this. Whatever Mac had done really hurt him.

“Bash?” I prodded, reaching my other hand in his direction.

“You did ghost me.”

“You ghosted me.” Mac said, and the sincerity in his voice broke my heart the rest of the way.

I needed to leave.

I shouldn’t have been there.

This was something the two of them needed to work out without me present. Hope thundered through me as I watched them watching each other.

I hadn’t misread anything. There was something there. Something they needed to resolve. I could only hope there was room for me when the dust settled.

I stood up slowly, grabbing my coat as I reached the door. Both men stood, but I put my hand up to stop them.

“Where are you going?” Bash asked.

“To Roxie’s for the night. The two of you need to work this out.” I swallowed really hard, choosing my next words carefully. It wasn’t a breakup. Not even close. But it was a chance for the two of them to work things out. “I want both of you. I need both of you in my life. What that looks like is up to the two of you.” My composure cracked, and I blurted the rest before I could stop myself. “But I can’t sit back and watch the two men I love hurting like this.”

Without waiting for a response, I got in my car and didn’t catch my breath until Roxie opened her front door.

“Did she just say she loved us?” Mac sagged against the couch.

A lead weight settled in my stomach as I stared at the front door. “Yep, and we fucked up.”

Mac raked his hands through his hair and groaned. “This is the worst timing ever.”

Used to his dramatics, I rolled my eyes and plopped onto the couch with him. “I don’t think any timing would be good.”

“I was here to ask Emily if she wanted to meet my parents.”

“So? She can meet them another time.”

“I told them I was bringing someone special. They—” He sighed and stared at his hand as he flexed it. “You wouldn’t understand.”

“Try me.”

“You come from a loving home.”

I snorted. “A loving home?”

“I just assumed—” Mac twisted to face me. “You’re so stable.”

Another snort.

“You’re the most stable, grounded person I know.”

“Are you complimenting me?”

His nostrils flared, and he threw his hands up. “Contrary to what you think, I don’t hate you.”
