"Okay. Be careful, yeah? Say hi to my sister-in-law for me."

"I will."

There was no way we were wrong about this. Someone had definitely taken shots at her. So who was it, and how could we tie them to our father?

We were going to have to catch him red-handed. Arresting him alone wasn't going to cut it.

I heard shuffling from the hallway and turned to find Gwen, still in her T-shirt and bare feet, coming my way. "There's my beautiful wife."

"Good morning."

"I’ve already got your hot chocolate going. Chocolate is melting now."

"Uh, I love you." She froze, the words just breaking through the prison of her lips.

I froze as well.

Our gazes met, and the brightest, sunniest smile spread over her face.

I grinned in return. "I love you too."

I would tell her I loved her a million times over just to see how it made her smile.

"So,” she began as I poured hot cocoa in her mug for her, and she skipped happily to the dining table. "We're going back tonight."

"We are." I said, watching her face for any hints of apprehension.

"It feels weird not to know what to expect. Do I just go back to my old apartment?"

I shook my head. "No. I just got you back. I'm not sleeping without you. I'm putting you in a building next to mine."

"How is that going to solve our problem? We’re being watched."

"Well, the buildings happen to have a connecting tunnel."

Her eyes went wide. "Oh, so we do the thing where I walk into my apartment and then sneak up to you when no one is watching?"

"Something like that. Though, I have a feeling I might sneak down to you."

Her smile was like a secret shared. "If we make it that far. This could mean clandestine hallway sex."

I groaned low thinking about not being able to wait to have her. Any blood in my head immediately rushed down to my cock. "Oh, now you're making me have really kinky thoughts."

"You're impossible,” she laughed.

"Yeah, I know."

Her phone dinged and she hopped off the stool to get it. And then she stared at it for a long moment.

"What's up?" I asked.

She gave me a sheepish smile. "Okay, don't be mad."

My brows dropped immediately. What the fuck now? "Every time you start a sentence with, 'Don't be mad,' I know I'm supposed to be mad. What did you do?"

"Look, I know it's not my business, but I couldn't just leave it alone. I had to look."

I shook my head. "Look at what, Gwen?"
