"Of course. Let me know if you need anything else. I'll have someone bring back food in the next hour or so. I know you haven't had a smoothie yet."

"Can I have my gummy bears?"

He shook his head. "No. You can have the healthy vegan ones though."

I wrinkled my nose. "They don't taste right."

"Don't pout. They're not good for you anyway."

"Can you just send some delicious food then? And chocolate, can you send chocolate?"

"Yes, I’ll have them put some dark chocolate on the tray. It was on the list of things you might want to eat."

"Ugh, dark chocolate's bitter."

"No, it's not. It's a delicacy."

"Fine. Jesus." How could he be so simultaneously sweet and frustrating?

The next several hours were like a dream.

Elsie and Amelie had my hair braided within an hour. Since we didn't have that much time, we opted for crochet. And they did, in fact, have a bathroom where they had a setup to wash my hair and everything. Private jet, hairdressers on board… God, this was the life.

Amelie's hands were gentle and fast as she braided me down, and the hair she added was long and wavy. The kind of hair you'd get for a vacation. Water wave or something. My hair was soft and silky. I eyed the packs, trying to remember them for the future.

"I could take a picture and send it to you."

I smiled at Amelie. "Thank you so much."

When we were done, my hair hung to my back. They showed me in the mirror, and I was digging it. I looked like a woman who completely changed her hairstyle after a breakup and leveled up to a new version of herself.

While they were working, I'd even managed to send several emails, find some bugs that were wrong in the software, and send them back to my team for them to tackle.

When I stepped out into the main compartment of the plane, Atticus did a double take. "They did that?"

My heart sank as I touched my hair self-consciously. "You don't like it?"

He blinked rapidly. "You look… I…" He cleared his throat. "No, what I mean is, you look beautiful. Different, but still you. Like a whole new you."

"Well, I love it. Thank you. That was very thoughtful."

He nodded. "We'll be landing in a couple of hours. When we do, we'll head to the villa to drop our things, and then we'll go to dinner. I have some people for you to meet."

"Dinner?"

"Yes, I figured you'd want to meet Penny and Sebastian privately before we do the whole court processional thing."

"Penny and Sebastian? As in the King and Queen of the Winston Isles?"

"Yes, what did you expect?"

"And we're just going to casually have dinner with them, as if, you know, everything is cool?"

"Everything is cool. Sebastian and I did a summer program at Uni together. He's smart and fun, and you'll really like Penny. She’s a firecracker. She keeps him on his toes. She used to be a Royal Guard."

The bubble of excitement just talking about them was enough to make me forget who I was talking to. "Oh, I remember reading about their wedding. Didn't she expose a big conspiracy against him?"

"I believe she did. You can ask her all about it."
