Then I winked. “It was… a little more than Chester’s offer.”
“Thank God,” she said, hugging me tightly.
For a moment, as I stroked the soft, fragrant locks of her hair, I gazed out over the water again, taking in the beauty of the valley around us, pondering all the possibilities of what lay ahead.
But the truth was that those possibilities, tantalizing as they were, paled next to the prospect of living out the remainder of my days with the woman I’d fallen for.
White Valley may have been beautiful… but it could never compare to my Genie.
I thought back to the day I had met the sweet girl. It seemed a lifetime ago, but in reality, it had been less than a year.
I’d taken on an intern, a seemingly silly girl. A supposed burden, an obligation.
And I’d received the best thing that had ever happened to an awful man like me.
Buckling her back into the Audi, I slipped into the driver’s seat, putting on my sunglasses.
I fired up the engine, the sound like a purring tiger, and glanced over at my beautiful girl. “It was a little over thirty-three million dollars.”
As Geneva’s mouth fell open, her pretty eyes the size of dinner plates, I hit the gas, propelling us back onto the highway with a spray of gravel behind us.
It was time to start the rest of our lives.
