"That can wait."

I couldn't wait until after the party to have her again. After nearly a week apart, a few more hours were too much.

I carried her squealing and giggling through the house and up the stairs. When we entered the bedroom, I chucked her on the bed and pulled my sweater over my head. Lia's giggles stopped when she met my eyes. I craved her.

Before I got my second knee on the bed, Lia had tossed her shoes and dress. I came down on top of her, capturing her mouth with mine.

"I missed you," I murmured against her ear.

She threw her head back with a soft groan as I worked my way from her lips, down her neck, and to her chest.

I licked tight circles around her rosy nipples, pulling them to attention with my teeth. Then I moved lower, darting my tongue under the edge of her panties.

"I missed you, too. I hated sleeping without you."

I hooked my thumbs under the scrap of lace and dragged it down, baring her to me. I was harder than stone and getting impatient.

"Couldn't have said it better myself." I said.

I drove my tongue between her lips after what felt like forever and groaned when she gasped.

I worked her into a frenzy until she was panting and fisting the comforter.

"I'm gonna come."

"Mmm. Not yet."

I slowed, dragging out the sensation of my tongue on her clit before I retreated.

Her eyes devoured me as I slid my belt through its loops, unbuttoned my pants, and drew down the zipper. I pulled my pants and boxers off and kicked them away.

As I situated myself at her entrance, a calm I hadn't had for days spread through me. As I slid home, I knew tonight was the night.

Lia

Raph threw a great party. Our house was full of everyone I loved the most. I was making my rounds when the doorbell rang. Who else could be coming?

"Mom! What a surprise! Come in!" I led my mom into the house, and we sat down together.

"I knew you wouldn't be coming home for Christmas this year."

I went to respond, but Mom held up a hand. "I've got something to say, Amelia. I know I didn't treat you well when you were growing up. If I could take it back, I would. But we can only go forward." She paused for a sip of mulled wine. "I want you to know, I don't expect anything, even your forgiveness. Seeing you so happy… I regret standing in the way so much. I should have cherished you instead of mourning your brother all those years. I wanna be a good mom. I'm trying to pick myself up, start over. You've set that example, finding love even though you had every reason to stay hidden away like you always were. I blame myself for the way you could never open up. I'm so sorry, Amelia. I'm sorry."

Her eyes welled up, and she collapsed into my arms. I rubbed her back and hugged her.

"It's okay, Mom. Everything worked out. You know, I actually met Raph at the goodbye party you threw for Henry. Then we found each other again."

Mom gave me a watery smile. "That's all I can hope for. I'm so glad you're happy. Your brother would be, too. He'd wanna be here and see you."

"I know."

"Well, I don't want to be a damper on your party here. It's Christmas, after all, and I got yous a gift," she said, handing me a bottle of red wine.

"I wanted to tell you, I've actually been seeing someone. His name's Jared, and he runs a winery a few hours from my new place. I didn't invite him because I didn't think it was right to bring a stranger, but I hope you'll both come down and have lunch with us sometime."

"Wow, Mom. That's fantastic. We'll definitely come and visit soon. And thank you for the wine, too. Is it one of his?"

"Yep, sure is. I hope yous like it. I love you, Lia."
