“Yes, now.” She shifted, spreading her legs, and I surged into her in a single forceful stroke.

She arched and took me deep. Desperate, I drove into her, hips pounding, muscles bunching, heart thundering.

Through my fur, her blunt nails dug into my shoulders. “Oh god. I’m going to come again,” she moaned against my throat. Her pussy contracted around my erection, milking my shaft.

Ecstasy ignited, and my cock convulsed, my body shuddered, and I was coming, coming apart, shattering into pieces only Kat could put together again. I would do anything to protect her, anything to save her because she was my lifeline, my reason for living, my motivation for trying, for not giving up, for soldiering on and hoping I could be normal and whole again.

My chest heaved, and my heart still raced when I disengaged, rolled to the side, and pulled her close, her back to my front. I wrapped my arms tight around her, holding on to her and the moment. As the orgasmic bliss faded, so did optimism.

We could hope, we could plan, but our options were limited. Seeher posed a grave danger to both of us: she would keep me mentally enslaved for the rest of my life, and she would kill Kat at the first opportunity.

“We have to get you off this ship,” I said.

“Save myself and leave you behind? No.”

Why couldn’t the stubborn pyot understand the mortal danger she was in? If only one of us could survive, it should be her. She wouldn’t be in this dire predicament if not for me. I had dragged her into this.

“You wouldn’t be leaving me behind; you’d be going for help,” I argued, rubbing my face against her head and inhaling her scent. My heart ached. I don’t want to lose her. “Seeher has allowed me free rein of the ship because there’s no place I can go, but, once we disembark, she won’t let me out of her sight. She’ll flip me, and I won’t remember any of this.” I won’t remember you. I would remember there had been a human, but I wouldn’t remember how much I loved her.

Pessimism swept through me, the intimacy and closeness we’d shared only emphasizing the bleakness of the future.

Kat twisted in my arms to face me. “I thought our plan was for me to hide in the duct and call for help after the ship landed.”

“I have a bad premonition. You need to get off the ship as soon as possible. Don’t wait for the LOP. Seeher could return before they arrive. Then you’d be trapped again.”

“What if we land in GJW territory?”

“They don’t have a territory anymore. The township on Aurelia was their stronghold. The Aurelia government destroyed it. The GJW members are diffused throughout the galaxy now. Wherever we land, the authorities can help you. Tell them my name.”

Kat went very still. “There are evac pods aboard, aren’t there? What if we both escape in a shuttle?”

“I did consider that, but it won’t work. Seeher has the entire ship under surveillance—with the exception of this room. She’d see us on the monitors. We could sneak through the duct and drop down outside the shuttle bay, but we’d still require permission from the bridge to launch a pod.”

She twisted her mouth. “That’s not going to happen.”

I shook my head. “No. If by some electronic miracle I circumvented the AI and managed to take off, the bridge would be alerted. This ship is not a fighter craft, but all league vessels have weapons in case they come under attack. Seeher would torpedo us with a plasma bomb or pursue and recapture us. An evac pod can’t outfly this ship. We wouldn’t stand a chance.”

“Let’s stick to the original plan, then. I’ll stay out of sight. When the ship docks, I’ll contact the LOP.”

“I’ll get you an illuminator and food and water, but you have to move far away from this cabin.”

She shook her head. “Then we won’t be able to be together.”

I clasped her hands in mine. “It breaks my heart. But it’s too risky for me to keep returning. Seeher can’t see inside the cabin, but she can see the passages. She’ll wonder why I keep coming back here.” Just bringing food and water one last time posed a huge risk.

Her face drooped with resignation and sadness. “All right.”

My heart clenched. I left out while the odds were fair the LOP would rescue her, there was very little chance they would get to me in time. As soon as the league reclaimed its ship, Seeher would ensure she and I vanished. After today, Kat and I would never see each other again.

She wrapped her arms around my neck and pressed her face to my chest. “Hold me, Lomax. Hold me.”

“I am.” I stroked her hair.

“Don’t let me go.”

“I won’t.” I hugged her tighter.

“Ever.”
