When he winks or gives me that special look, it makes my toes curl.

He’s so demanding and yet giving in bed, and when he says things like “Yeah, Babe, like that. You are so beautiful when you come for me,” Lordy, but he makes me feel desired.

It’s not just lingerie that I’ve been buying. Last week, I went to a Harley store and bought some biker babe clothes. At least, that’s what I call them.

I have to admit that even I think I look hot when I pair them with my smokey eye makeup. That man has been good for my self-esteem.

Today is Monday, and this coming Friday night, we have plans to go to Wild Riders. Chase has promised to teach me how to play pool.

I think back to other Friday nights when I sat home alone. I know it was mostly by choice. I was asked out, not all the time, but I know I could have said yes to the dates that I turned down.

Even then, I think my heart belonged to Chase. I just didn’t want to admit it. I used to be so jealous of his parade of women.

What would he say if he knew?

Chase

It’s the middle of the week, and my mom has invited Val and me over for dinner.

My mom gives us a hug before we follow her into the kitchen.

“Can I help with anything, Bonnie?”

“No, Val, but thank you. I hope you like lasagna.”

“I know it’s Chase’s favorite, and I like it, too.”

“Great. Let’s all have a seat. Chase, do you mind bringing in the serving dish? It’s hot.”

“Not at all.”

When I set down the huge tray of lasagna, I ask, “Where’s the garlic bread?”

“Right, here, Son.”

“Is it just Val and I tonight, no Carson?”

“I invited Carson, but you know him. He said he was busy. I worry about him. He works so hard. I wish he’d take more time for himself.”

My mom dishes me up a huge plate of her lasagna. Then, she gives Val and herself a smaller portion. I grab three pieces of garlic bread, and I’m set.

“I made salad, but I knew Chase wouldn’t eat any. He never was much of a salad man. None of my boys are. I think they get that from my late husband, Carlton.”

“Chase showed me around Knight Security last week. I love the location of the property. All those gorgeous river views.”

“Oh, yes. Carlton loved the river. He had a boat at one time. We enjoyed being out on the water, especially when the boys were younger. I don’t even remember what happened to that boat.”

“Dad put it up for sale, one year.”

“Oh, yes. I remember now,” my mom continues to reminisce.

“Carlton had so many interests. He and his brother, Sam, both loved riding their motorcycles. Then Sam went into law enforcement, but Carlton always had a passion for anything to do with safety and security. He loved building his business. I was so proud of his accomplishments. “

My mom looks over at Val. “All my boys are hard workers, just like their father. And every one of them is involved in security. One way or the other.”

“Mom, remember Val’s involved with security in a way, too. Her team is developing that new camera imaging software that can identify objects better.”
