“I’m glad you like my Italian cooking. It’s fun to cook for someone who likes my food.”

I rub my flat stomach. “I love your food, but I don’t want you to feel like you have to cook for me. Okay?”

“Got it. And I appreciate that.”

I swing by the restaurant, pick up our to-go orders, and then pull into our driveway.

I unlock the door, and Val and I go into my apartment.

“Do you want to eat at the dining table or outside on the deck?”

“It’s such a beautiful night. Let’s sit outside. I’ll grab some drinks.”

I continue on out the glass sliding doors and put the food containers on the table.

“Bring silverware, okay?”

“Already have it.”

Val sets down two glasses of iced tea and silverware. “I brought napkins just in case.”

We both sit down, and Val opens her Fettuccine Alfredo, and I bite into my lasagna. She opens the container of garlic bread and passes me two slices.

I continue to eat while Val talks about the progress she has made on the imaging software she’s been working on.

“I’m excited about the details we’ve been able to enhance. Our preliminary testing looks very promising. We’re getting to the point in the development where I’ll have to start going into the office, though. So, I won’t be working from home as often as I used to.”

“You’re lucky you can work from home as much as you do.”

“Yeah, I know. That’s one of the things I love about programming. So, how was your day, Chase? You’ve been home almost every night this week.”

I give her a grin, “I could say because I’m now a married man, but next week, I’ll have to work a few late nights or maybe some very early mornings.”

She just nods. After she finishes her meal, she looks at the last container.

“What’s in that?””Well, it’s too small of a container to be a birthday cake. Open it and find out.”

Val eagerly opens the container.

“Oh, you didn’t! Zeppoles! I love these— fried dough, powdered sugar, and yep! Raspberry sauce.”

She pulls the container toward her and eats a few, then while she’s licking her fingers, she smiles over at me, “Here, take what you want.”

”I might just do that,” I say as I look at her suggestively.

She stops licking the sweet off her fingers, and I see her eyes grow wide.

Damn, what am I doing? I casually reach out and take a handful of her dessert. I dunk one into the raspberry sauce and take a bite.

“These are damn good.”

“See what you’ve been missing out on?”

After all the innocent innuendos from Val. And a not-so-innocent remark from me. My zipper is pressing uncomfortably against my hardening erection. I adjust the way I’m sitting but still don’t get any relief.

“It’s getting cooler out here. Let’s go in.”

We each pick up a few things to clear the table and then carry the now-empty cartons into the house and place them in the trash.
