Raven jerked around, finding two gorgeous women standing behind her, irritated that she’d stopped in the doorway.

“Sorry,” Raven mumbled and stepped to the side. She should head over to the table, force her lips into a polite, professional smile. But she couldn’t do it. Raven pressed back against the rough wood of the trendy bar, needing a moment to compose herself. Tim was…potent!

The fact that he knew her preferred drink shouldn’t surprise her. The only surprise would be the flavor he chose for her. After all, they’d been meeting every other night to discuss his future spousal preferences. Of course, those conversations about his preferences never, truly, happened. She and Tim would meet, they’d drink a martini and a beer and debate…everything. Anything!

She was losing perspective, Raven cautioned herself.

The two women, the ones that had snapped at her for blocking the entrance, were currently craning their necks, trying to get a look at something in the bar area.

“I told you it was him!” the bitchy female hissed. The woman who had rudely complained to Raven a moment ago was whispering to her blond friend. The brunette was tall and svelte, making Raven feel short and chubby by comparison. Her blond friend was equally thin, and her tan looked to be baked on. Her pale pink lipstick made her lips look frosty instead of natural.

But some guys liked that look, Raven thought to herself.

“What’s his net worth?” the blond asked, bouncing on her toes.

The brunette giggled, but didn’t bounce. She was more restrained. Immediately, Raven knew who they were talking about. Tim. There wasn’t anyone else in the bar who could compare when it came to wealth. Tim was wealthy even beyond her comprehension. Raven knew she was considered “well off”. But Tim’s financial status was in a stratosphere that was beyond whatever her mind could grasp.

“I’m going in,” the brunette said, then reached into her blouse to “fluff” up her breasts. She was already wearing a low cut blouse, but the “fluffing” made them that much more obvious.

“No!” the blond hissed. “This is my chance! You had that lawyer last week!”

The brunette rolled her eyes. “Yeah, but I’m the one who spotted Tim Armstrong from the street. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t even know that he was here.”

Raven chuckled. “Ladies, I don’t think–”

The blond held up her hand. “Don’t even bother,” she snapped, allowing her eyes to move up and down over Raven’s figure. “You’re not in his league.”

The brunette chuckled. “Go find your own billionaire,” she snarked, with a mean-girl flip of her hair.

A moment later, the two walked over to the table where Tim was sitting. He was doing something on his phone but when the pair strolled over, he looked up. Raven noticed that he didn’t look particularly pleased to see them. His expression wasn’t welcoming. In fact, he seemed irritated by the interruption.

Raven stood back, watching. Tim was polite, but was obviously not inclined to entertain the pair. However, one sat down on the vacant stool, leaning forward. Raven knew that the brunette was trying to show off her previously “fluffed” attributes.

For a moment, Raven felt bad for Tim. He was too polite to get rid of….

Nope. Raven was wrong. Tim lifted a hand and the bouncer immediately appeared at the table. She didn’t know what he said, but the ladies were smiling one moment, then looked shocked the next. And a second later, the bouncer had one hand on each woman’s upper arms, forcefully nudging them towards the exit.

“What the hell?” the brunette snapped.

Raven chuckled. “Better luck next time,” she whispered, then walked over to the table.

Immediately, Tim stood up, looking down at her with…okay, he didn’t smile. In fact, there was triumph in his eyes.

“About time you got here,” he replied, then gestured to the empty seat. “I already ordered for us.”

Raven slid onto the stool and looked down at the martini that was still chilled and frosty. “What’s the flavor tonight?” she asked, dropping her tote bag onto the floor beside her stool.

“I chose the mint-raspberry martini,” he told her, lifting his glass of draft beer . Raven did the same and they clinked glasses. “If you don’t like it, I can order something else.”

“No, a mint-raspberry martini sounds interesting,” she said, lifting the martini glass to her lips. She happened to glance out the window at that moment to find the blond and brunette huffing at her from across the street. She almost laughed, but instead, tilted her head towards the two women. “Friends of yours?”

He snorted and set his beer down on the table. “Just a couple of women hoping for free drinks.”

“I don’t think they like me,” she commented, tilting her head as she watched them walk down the street, their high heels wobbling slightly.

“Don’t let them bother you. They don’t like me either.”

“But they were just here trying to chat you up.”
