Crallantry.

It made Cady laugh, and I’m all for that.

Both Dexter and I don’t bother to hide the fact that we’re eavesdropping on their conversation. “I Googled you, you know,” Nick announces to Cady.

“I would have done the same thing if I had a device that could Google. My assistant confiscated my laptop and my phone for the weekend,” Cady explains.

“You’re a billionaire, so you can go buy another one. That’s what Google said.” Nick is a professional baseball player and has never wanted for money, but even he can’t help but be impressed with Cady. “I’ve never met a lady billionaire before.”

“I expect we’re a lot like other billionaires—all work and no play. Plus, we have a pussy instead of balls.”

“She said pussy,” Dexter mouths to me.

“I think she says a lot of things,” I whisper.

“What exactly is it that you do?” Nick asks lazily. “To become a billionaire.”

“I work hard,” Cady says. “I own quite a few clubs.” She rattles off a list, and there’s a lot on it that I recognize, both strip clubs and regular nightclubs across Canada. “I bought a couple of restaurants, a shoe company and a makeup company.”

“I didn’t know that,” I call.

“I try to diversify,” she says over her shoulder. “Variety, you know.”

“I like variety.” Nick deepens his voice, and I see Cady shake her head.

“My main focus these days is a website I run for women.”

“One of those advice sites?” Dexter wants to know. “Ten best ways to keep your husband type of thing.”

“Have you heard of E?”

“The escort website?” Nick asks.

“Mature Adult Female is similar but the target market is divorced woman looking to regain their sexual confidence and have some fun, rather than E, whose clients were mainly married men looking to easily cheat on their wives.”

Dexter’s mouth drops open. “I never meant for it to become like that,” Cady adds.

“Wait—you owned E? I remember hearing about that on the news. This politician caught cheating blamed this escort service…” Dexter trails off.

“That was you?” Nick demands.

Cady nods. “Not me, personally, but I owned it. I set it up like a subscription service. For a monthly, or yearly fee, you had a list of girls you could contact for dates. If you needed someone to show up at a wedding with—” —Cady throws a smile over her shoulder— “—you would pay a certain amount. Overnight visits would be higher priced, and so forth. Anything truly kinky or taboo would be top level.”

“Of course,” Dexter says looking uncomfortable.

“How much would this top-level be?” Nick wants to know. I can’t see him falling into that level—he might be able to afford it, but he doesn’t strike me as being into kink. The odd threesome, sure, and maybe a little spanking, but he’s too vanilla to get into more, despite his cocky bravado.

“I had a client who paid over eighty thousand to have a session with a dominatrix four times a year.”

Nick’s eyes pop. “Twenty thou to get spanked?”

“I think it was more than that, but yes. Madame Hela had quite a few regulars. I think she’s retired now after it all blew up. I sold it two years ago,” she explains. “Just before the lawsuit.”

“So the trafficking charges—” Dexter asks.

“Was absolutely not me,” she says firmly. “There was nothing of the sort under my watch. I knew each of the girls personally, and their physical and mental care were my first priority. A lot of them left when I sold it, which led to needing more girls… It makes me sick to think about what happened.”

“What’s your new site like?” I ask. “I haven’t heard much about it.”
