“Get back to me.” I hang up.

I immediately wonder if Luka has a new girlfriend that has won him over and gotten information from him. He did that when he was younger, trying to show off he is in a mobster family. He nearly got himself and the rest of us thrown in jail. I hope he learned his lesson from that, but my brother can be reckless.

I dial my baby brother.

“Yes, Danil?” he answers.

“Luka, have you been running your mouth off to girls about our business again?” I ask straight away. “Just tell me, and I won’t have you killed.”

Luka seems genuinely surprised. “What the fuck, Danil? No, I haven’t run my mouth off. I’ve been too busy running the casino and the races to even think about girls at the moment.”

I sigh. “What about Arseny? Any new girls in his life?”

“Why don’t you call him and accuse him?” Luka snaps before he hangs up.

Great, this day just gets fucking better with every moment.

I don’t call Arseny because I don’t need another brother pissed at me.

I pace the hallway for a few minutes, debating who to call next. The choice is taken from me when my phone rings. It’s Kervyn again.

“You blamed Luka?” he asks. “Where does that come from?”

“I just wanted to make sure he wasn’t getting drunk and running his mouth off,” I say.

“Danil, he was seventeen the last time that happened, and he was young and stupid. He’s a man now, even if he is the baby brother,” Kervyn says. “You don’t just go blaming the people you know you can trust. Arseny and Luka would never betray us. Just like I know you would never betray this family either. You better apologize to him.” He hangs up again.

Fuck!!!

I sigh, go to my office, and pour myself a whiskey. I might as well drink since everyone is pissed at me except my mother, though I could probably find a reason for her to shit me out.

I sit down at my computer, and the login screen pops up. I type in the password, and the desktop opens. I open my documents and pause. The last file opened was the Black Cat Exchange one. I know I haven’t opened it recently and have opened other files since that last time. It should not be the last opened file.

I stand up and pace the room. That document is on this computer, which is on a private network. It never leaves my house. That means that someone had to break into my house to get onto the computer and get the document.

“Renat,” I call.

“Yes, sir,” he says, standing at the door.

“I think someone broke into this house and stole something from me. From this computer,” I say.

“How would they know how to get on your computer, sir?” Renat asks. That’s a good point.

So I’ve solved how they got the contact. Someone gave them my file. But who could know my login details? Renat was never in the room, and neither was Claire. I don’t have anyone else here, really. I’m not one for home visits.

I freeze, and I cast my mind back. I remember logging into my computer that one night before Asher and I went out. I had a feeling she’d seen the password, but I hadn’t thought anything of it.

But she wouldn’t betray me?

I think about the fight we’ve just had. She’s adamant that she hates me for abducting her from her life. But is she hateful enough to get her to contact the Italians and betray us?

I don’t want to think it’s her, but she’s the one who makes the most sense. She could come in and out of the house without being questioned. She most likely knows my login details. How would she know what file to access, though? How would she know who to give it to? So many questions don’t make sense, but it feels like this could be the answer.

I down my whiskey and pour another one. I dial Asher’s number and hold my phone to my ear. Straight to voicemail. She must not have a signal, which is strange because she should still be at work. The gallery has a full-strength signal.

I send her a text to call me. There’s nothing more to do than wait.

Waiting makes me edgy, and I pace the office. What Kervyn will do to Asher makes me angry. If she’s really done this, if she’s sold us out, Kervyn will have to deal with her in the strictest way possible. She better have the best alibi ever because right now, it’s not looking good.
