“Shut up, Brandon.” Nadine sipped her drink.

“Stella told me what happened and why you fired her, Nadine. She also told me the rumors you’re spreading about her throughout the social circle.”

“That woman is a thief, and she was after my husband.”

“You’re a liar.” I pointed at her.

“How dare you, Miles?”

“She didn’t steal from you and wasn’t after Brandon. I don’t appreciate lies and false information being spread about my wife. You tell your social circle that you were wrong in firing Stella. Understand me?”

“I will do no such thing,” Nadine scolded.

“Okay then. Maybe your social circle would like to know the kind of financial trouble you’re in.”

“Now hold on, Miles.” Brandon raised his hand.

“You wouldn’t dare.” Nadine’s eyes narrowed.

“Oh, but I would.” I smiled. “She’s my wife, and I will not tolerate lies being spread for something she didn’t do because of your insecurities, Nadine. She still talks to the other nannies. So, next time she does, she better tell me that you told everyone you were wrong, and you regret firing her.” I stood from my chair. “Enjoy the rest of your dinner.” I walked back to my table. “Austin. Jenna. Your parents are waiting for you.”

“Bye, Stella.” Both children waved to her.

“What did you say to them?” Stella asked.

“Nothing you need to worry about.” I picked up my fork.

CHAPTER 15

ONE MONTH LATER

Stella

My eyes flew open at the sudden feeling of nausea that took over me. Jumping out of bed, I ran into the bathroom and leaned over the toilet. Shit. Not today. I started my new semester at NYU. As I sat on the floor with my head in the toilet, I could feel the rise in my throat. When it was finally over, I stood up, grabbed a wash cloth, ran it under hot water, and placed it on my face. The nausea was still there, but not as bad.

I stepped into the shower and quickly shaved and washed my body.

“Good morning.” Mile’s voice startled me.

“Miles, what the hell?”

I turned off the shower, and he was standing there holding a towel when I slid open the door.

“Thanks.” I grabbed it and wrapped it around my body. “Why are you in my bathroom?”

“Well, it is my bathroom too. This is my penthouse.” He smirked. “Anyway, I know you start your new classes today and I was worried you weren’t up yet.”

“I am, and I need to get ready.” The smell of the coffee he held intensified the nauseous feeling in my belly.

“I’ll make you a cup of coffee before I leave,” he said.

“No, don’t.”

“Why not?” His brows furrowed.

“I don’t feel like any right now.”

“You always have coffee first thing in the morning.”
