“Your stomach must hate me right now.” We laughed at the body part that didn’t mind being embarrassed until we fed it.

“Let’s dive in!”

We eat slowly as we catch up on more things that happened during our three-week imposed break from each other.

The waiter returned with the main dish, a platter of lots of seafood and pasta. One thing Damien and I shared was our taste in food. We loved almost the same food except pepperoni. Why did anyone like pepperoni, anyway?

“Does Kelvin know you are coming to San Antonio with me?”

“Nope, and I don’t intend to tell him.”

“I’m mighty glad we are on the same page on this one.”

I stretch my hand out to give him an official handshake, and he takes it, turns it, and presses it to his lips, leaving a mark that I never want to fade away.

We continue sipping our glasses of champagne until we notice how late it is already at night.

“I’ve had such a lovely time here, DM. I wouldn’t want to end such a day in any other way.”

“I’m happy that you are happy, my lady.”

He holds onto my hand as if searching for more confirmation that this entire experience is real.

After eating dessert, which was filled with doses of sugary delights and chocolaty, exactly how I like it, we moved back to the car we came in. We headed home to prepare for our trip.

As we approach the bend to our homes, I take a few minutes to savor his presence again.

The way his hair is swerved to the left side of his face gives me an uninterrupted view of his clear, milky skin and sparkly eyes as he stares into the starry sky with his hand on my thigh.

Right here, at this moment, I acknowledge how happy this man makes me feel.

I am definitely in love with him.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Damien

Yesterday’s activities still feel like a dream to me. I successfully executed everything according to plan and overlooked nothing, not even my little surprise.

My mind flashes back to the kiss we shared yesterday as I dropped her off in front of her door. I can’t believe it took almost three weeks before we could do that again.

When he came to pick us up for the date, I saw Fred’s eyes widen in shock, as he never knew we lived so close to each other.

After the date, his mind was restless, and he had to ask the questions that had been bugging him since earlier in the evening.

“I never knew you both stayed this close to each other, Mr. Stone. How come you do not come to work together?”

“Frederick…The fact that you are…engaged to someone doesn’t mean you both must do everything together. Although we’ve arrived at work in the same car a couple of times.”

“Wow…you both look so happy, Mr. Stone. I’m excited for you.”

“Thanks, Fred. Love truly is a beautiful thing, as they say it is.”

“I can see it from the giggles and touch you both share now and then.”

“You, my man, are highly observant.”

“Don’t forget to be back here by 3:00 pm to drive us to the airport. You know how prolonged the check-in process can be at the airport.”
