He laughed, still breathing heavily. I was mortified.

“No, no. I’m not laughing at you. I’m overwhelmed. I… I think that is one of the first times I heard you swear, Lex.”

He handed me his boxers.

“Just take care of whatever you need. I’ll do the rest,” Rick said.

I was still mortified, doing as he said. Rick tossed the boxers on the floor, grumbling as he settled back down in bed. He turned to look at me.

“Baby, you have nothing to be embarrassed about.”

“I feel like I did a dreadful job?—”

“Nah. You did well. I never would have guessed that was your first time. You aren’t good at reading me yet. And I’m not good at reading you. We’ll get better at it. Promise. But that was great.”

“Really?”

He nodded. “Come here.”

I curled up in his arms, wrapping my arm across his chest.

“You are lovely. A lot of fun, baby. Thank you.”

“I promise I will get better.”

“You don’t need to promise me anything,” Rick said. “Other than to be yourself. It wouldn’t matter if you’d slept with seventy guys before me. We’d still be new to this. It would still be awkward.”

“Really?” I looked at him.

“Yeah,” Rick promised. “It’s just part of getting to know someone. It’s no different than anything else we’re trying to figure out. You’re good. It’s not a surprise, given that you’re a fabulous kisser, Lex.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. That’s why I just assumed… well, you’re notsubtle.”

I laughed. “I don’t like tiny, gentile kisses, I guess.”

He kissed me, catching me off guard. It was good, but I struggled to enjoy it given where my mouth had just been, I was sure he’d be opposed.

“You don’t… care?” I asked.

“About what, Lex?”

“Never mind,” I said.

“You are wonderfully giving, and I will make it up to you,” Rick promised.

Ikissed Alexandra as we prepared for lunch at a vineyard. I was finally up and moving but struggled to do everything I wanted with Alexandra. The poor thing was so patient and gave head so freely that she deserved a trophy. “Good head” was an unexpected square on my “arranged marriage to a virgin” bingo card.

Alexandra looped her arms around my neck. Our car waited downstairs, but she paid no attention—too focused on kissing me. I was also in no hurry, pushing her back against the desk near the entryway. I heard something rattle and fall over. I was tempted to throw her up on the desk, but that didn’t seem fair. She deserved her first time to be better than a quickie on a desk!

She pulled away, her gaze laser-focused. “I want you.”

“Lex, we have a car waiting. I want this to be… lovely for you. I don’t want it to be a wham, bam, thank you, ma’am.”
