“Why are you calling?” he asked. “Is anything wrong?”

“No,” I replied, reconsidering if I should mention this to him. It would be tough to pull off, but I couldn’t see why this couldn’t be acceptable to placate Aurora as well. Otherwise, and with possibly no forthcoming explanations on her mother, the wedding day itself was bound to be quite sour.

Currently, she was clinging and mostly only talking to her fiancé, refusing to let anyone close by and treating us all like the enemy. Yes, especially me. Ever since I had left her room, we had not even exchanged a single word, and it was all just so sad, to say the least.

“I’m sorry if this puts any additional stress on you, but I'm just going to suggest this and if it's something you don't have much of an interest in, then please let me know.”

“Alright,” he said. “Let's hear it.”

“Aurora's been having a really bad day,” I said; however, he didn’t respond. I sigh. “I'm thinking that why don’t we give her the wedding she wants ultimately. I mean, she doesn’t quite have to cancel the big one already planned, but I've heard what she wants for the church, how she wants it to look, the location, what she wants to wear.”

“Tonight's free, I think. The salsa dancing thing is not really making anyone excited, so maybe we can blow it off, or even handle this late and surprise her with the wedding. I’ve checked, and the church location is not too far from the house. I mean, it is far, but that can’t be helped. Plus, we can blindfold her, though she might be a little upset and refuse to cooperate given the state she's currently in.”

I kept talking, not realizing that I was rambling until eventually, I realized just how quiet the line was. I immediately apologized.

“I'm sorry,” I told him. “I said I was going to state my case with only one sentence.” To my surprise, his response was positive.

“It's okay,” he said. “I like your idea. In fact, I love it a lot. I've just not had the time to think about it, plus Victoria, none of us imagined, would make such a detour with her wedding planning.”

“Yeah,” I replied.

“So, can you handle it?” he asked. I was shocked. For a few seconds, I couldn't say a single word, and then I got ready to reject him.

“Um…” I began; however, he didn't even give me the chance to respond.

“You can work with my assistant,” he said. “Just tell him whatever you need, and he’ll get it done.”

“Oh!” I said, realizing now that I just possibly might be able to pull this off. “Shit.”

His breath released harshly then, as though he had heard me come to the realization that maybe, just maybe, this very needed thing to calm the waters was quite necessary.

“Alright, then,” he said. “I'll get him to call you. His name is Scott.”

“Sure,” I asked, but before he left, I stopped him once again.

“Just one more question,” I said. “I'm sorry.”

“It's fine,” he replied. “What is it?”

“Will you… the guest list,” I asked. “She would really love if you and her parents were there. Is it possible? I’m so sorry to ask.”

“Don't be,” he said. “And if you're right. I know she'd love us there. I'll see what I can do. Mom is already feeling better, so I'll ask the doctor to gauge her condition by then, and I'll do everything possible to see if we can make it. I'll keep in touch with you.”

“Alright,” I said, and the call came to an end.

I was so happy, especially as I gazed across the field then and found Aurora very unwillingly posing against one of the golf carts alone. Her fiancé was by the side, trying to speak to her, but she ignored everyone and barely gave a smile. I wasn't too worried; this was part of the ceremony, and her pictures for the magazines could present her as a model rather than a blushing bride due to the lack of blushing involved. As for the pictures where she would be absolutely filled with joy, I planned to do my very best work tonight.

The first thing I needed was to head down to the church, as described by Aurora, so that I could see what I would be working with. It was among the very first things she had mentioned to me at the beginning, so I knew that she would absolutely love it. Plus, I needed to get her fiancé in on this. Unfortunately, I hadn’t known her for too long, but he, I imagined, would know all of her preferences.

I would have liked to use this as an avenue to contact her brother, probably more often than was necessary, but I knew that the last thing he would want was to be disturbed. And so, I intended, like he had suggested, to focus on her fiancé and Scott. Scott informed me before I had even said a word that he was on the way to the Hamptons, but I stopped him and quickly headed over to her fiancé.

Aurora took one of her endless breaks, relaxing and sipping on what I suspected was one too many non-alcoholic cocktails, but she wasn't listening to anyone today, so no one stepped in.

He had a smile for me as soon as I approached, and I was immediately relieved by it.

“I need some information about Aurora,” I said, and his brows lifted in surprise.

I explained to him about the plans we had, and immediately his face brightened up even further.
