"Is it true that if you knew I was going to react that way, you wouldn’t have still asked the question you did?"

And just like that and once again, I was severely perplexed by him and his questions.

"Are you insinuating that I deliberately set out to annoy you?" I asked in disbelief; however, he shook his head.

"The subject matter," he said, "You're friendly with Aurora, so of course you care that she wasn’t exactly getting the wedding she wants."

"Oh," I replied and nodded. He was right, again. Shaking my head, I had to deeply fight the urge to slap my hand against my face.

Sighing, I looked up at him.

“I'm still…” I tried my best to tread carefully. “I'm still not very happy, of course, that she wasn't able to get the wedding she wants. But what I am apologizing for is stepping out of line and criticizing you for this. I mean, I'm just someone employed, and I shouldn't have asked you that. It's not my business. I just, as you said, appreciate Aurora's treatment of me and how much she likes my work, and so I couldn't help but empathize with her.”

He pushed the book aside and crossed his arms across his chest, as though I now fully had his attention. I truly tried my best not to notice how the muscles shifted underneath his clothing and just how broad his shoulders were. Truly, I had to shift then from one leg to the other because my clit was throbbing so hard that I nearly couldn't speak. It was so frustrating and upsetting, and multiple times, as well, I had to look down to be sure that I wasn't dripping onto the carpet because my thighs were now wet as fuck.

"Empathetic?" he asks. "Have you been married before?"

This was an unexpected question.

"No," I replied.

"So, in what way exactly were you empathetic?" he asked. This was a difficult one, but as I watched him, my brain geared back up into action and began to work.

"Well... I am a wedding photographer, so even if I am not married, I have photographed a lot of weddings, so I have intuition and experience with these things."

"Which are?" he asks, and I frowned deeply because I didn't know how to answer this goddamn question.

"Let's just say I know that a bride being upset that her once special day is not going to happen the way she envisioned it is very, very upsetting indeed."

He continued to watch me.

"Is this something that would upset you as well?"

Truly, his questions were getting out of hand because how the hell was I supposed to respond to this?

"This is not about me," I reminded him, and a sliver of a smile appeared on the corner of his lips, making me wonder if he was just taunting me.

"So, you don’t have an answer?" he asked, and I sighed again.

"Yes, if it was me, if I was in Aurora's shoes, I would be absolutely fucking pissed."

His eyebrows raised.

"So, you're not sorry?" he asked, and I frowned.

"That's what I just said," I replied. "I'm not sorry that I asked; I'm just sorry that perhaps the fact that I had asked may have upset you. I didn't want it to cause any discomfort or take away from the focus of Aurora and her ceremony this week. Since I'll be constantly taking pictures and thus be everywhere, it is unavoidable that we'll run into each other, and I didn't want things to be awkward."

At my words, he continued to stare at me, and then he rose to his feet. My instincts automatically took a step back, but I managed to catch myself just in time before I totally submitted, like a complete buffoon. Slipping his hands into his pocket, he began to walk toward me, and all I could do was stare at him.

"I accept your apology," he said. "However, I can't guarantee that it won't keep hanging over our heads."

At his words, I wondered if he was joking. I studied him, however, it couldn't possibly be because he seemed too serious, so I couldn't really understand what was happening.

"Um... okay," I said, and he smiled.

"Okay? So, you don't care to wipe the slate clean?"

At these words, I understood then what was happening. He needed his pound of flesh before he would completely accept my apology, and instantly, I was wary. However, I couldn't truly help but be curious about what he was going to ask for.
