Her gaze cut to the window right as Brendan walked up to the door with Dillon on his heels and her lips instantly rose in a smile. The winter air rushed inside with them. Katie rubbed her arms, wishing they had a fireplace in here or that she’d remembered her sweater.

He looked so fucking delectable. Wool overcoat hanging open over a shirt that hugged his abs. Slim-fit pants. All black. All custom tailored. And all hers.

Katie had his coffee poured before he reached over the counter to kiss her. “Mm, sweet girl.”

Dillon grinned at his side. Kelly rolled her eyes and took his order. Handing Katie the cup, she cocked her head at Brendan.

“Are you stealing my niece for New Year’s Eve or do I get to spend at least one holiday with her?” She pursed her lips and brought her index finger to the corner of her mouth. Then she smirked. “Never mind. You’ll be busy at the Red Door, won’t you? She’s mine.”

Trying to start shit, Auntie?

Well, it wasn’t going to work.

Katie knew Brendan had to be at the club that night and had already resigned herself that she’d be watching the ball drop alone on TV. Was she thrilled about that? Of course not. But right now she was more pissed off at Kelly for bringing it up—so she would second guess herself, she was sure—than she was upset that she wouldn’t be able to kiss him at midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Brendan raised his brow and grinned. He licked his bottom lip. “Actually…”

Dillon interrupted, “It’s my birthday, and you and Katie are both invited…” He winked at Kelly. “…to come.”

Oh, Jesus. Is he hitting on her?

Katie fought to keep a straight face. “Your birthday is on New Year’s?”

Dillon looked her way. “New Year’s Day, yeah.” His smile was dazzling. “So everyone has to kiss me at twelve. It’s a rule. Right, Bren?”

“Right,” he snickered.

“Are you out of your fucking mind?” Kelly leaned over the counter. “I cannot. I will not bring my eighteen-year-old niece to some sleazy sex club.”

Uh-oh.

Katie spied the tick in Brendan’s jaw before it disappeared, replaced by his trademark lazy smirk. “Then I guess she’ll be there without you.”

Her eyes darted from Brendan to Dillon to her aunt. This could go bad very quickly.

“C’mon.” Dillon took Kelly’s hand in his, stroking her palm. “It’s my birthday, and the club is nothing like you’re imagining, I assure you. Just ask…”

Katie felt her eyes go round as she looked at Dillon and slowly shook her head. She never did tell Kelly she went to the ball there on Halloween, and now was not the best time for her to find out.

“…anyone.” Dillon caught her eye and winked.

“Katie’s underage.” Kelly crossed her arms over her chest and popped out her hip. “She can’t get in a bar.”

“It’s a private club and we’ll have our own VIP space,” Brendan explained. He cleared his throat. “I know Katelyn’s been to frat parties and we both know just how sleazy those are, don’t we, Kelly?”

Her aunt opened her mouth, but no words came out.

Dillon grinned. “Wear something black and slinky for me.”

Kelly turned abruptly and left.

“Your aunt is hot.”

Katie handed Dillon his americano. “You do know she’s a lesbian, right?”

He smirked with a wink. “I can change her mind.”

Shaking her head, Katie giggled. Because if anyone could, it’d be him.
