Lily and I pulled up to Ravenwood. The tall brick building with glass windows. As we walked up to the entrance, I let go of her hand and smile at her. “We can do this.”

Today is Lily’s first day at Ravenwood. Being her boyfriend, or well, I guess we aren’t official yet, but since we are seeing each other romantically, it’s no wonder life would throw me a curveball like this. I’m happy for her, because my company is one of the best to work for, but it makes me nervous as well. What if things get complicated between us?

I have to stay focused on my work, but monitor her. It’s important that my employees enjoy their job, and it’s different when someone you are sleeping with is working in the same office.

There are still things I don’t know about Lily, like her background, that enabled her to get the job. Not that I don’t think she can do a good job, but I’m interested. I pull her file and see her degree and her past experience. She is perfect for my company and we are lucky to have her as the Marketing Manager.

My assistant helps me get everything situated before the weekend. On Fridays, I typically don’t stay late because even as the boss, I’m adamant about taking the weekends for myself. My employees know that unless it’s urgent, we all get the weekends off. It’s important to be able to have a life outside of work, and that is one reason my company has done so well. The turnover is not high and once people are hired here, they usually stay, except a few.

By five, I have my emails down to about twenty, and I call it a day. I refrain myself from texting Lily at all today because she is in the office. Even though I’m dying to know how her first day went, now that I’m heading out, I grab my phone.

Me: Are you still here? I’m heading out and wondered if you wanted to ride with me. I can take you home.

I sit at my desk, waiting for her reply. This whole ordeal is bizarre. Before meeting Lily, my love life has been bleak, and for the most part I gave up on finding someone long term for myself, but then of all the places, I meet her at a coffee shop.

Lily: Give me ten. I’ll meet you downstairs.

I put my phone in my back pocket, grab my briefcase and head to the elevator, telling everyone I see on my way out to have a good weekend. As a boss, I try to be very positive in my employee’s lives. Being this way makes a huge difference in how happy employees can be.

I wait for her outside, and when she comes out of the front doors, a smile tugs at my lips. God, she is gorgeous and all mine. Or at least I hope she will be. Her eyes are shining.

“So, how did it go?” I ask her, throwing my arms around her shoulder before she gets in the car.

“It was great!” she says, her face beaming with joy. “I was a little nervous at first, but I got to meet some really nice people. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, it made me feel right at home.”

“That’s great,” I say, feeling relieved.

My mind is put at ease. Working at the same company shouldn’t put a stop to our relationship unless it somehow puts us in an awkward position, but I have no direct say in her employment, and never will. That’s a boundary that will never be crossed.

My driver takes off, and I slip a soft kiss on her lips. “So, are we still on for dinner tonight? I can make something or order in.”

She turns her head toward me. “Makes it easier for what I want to do with you, then.”

My dick twitches. “Oh really? Well, you already know I was thinking of you on my desk all day. It’s hard to get anything done.”

The driver pulls up in front of her apartment and she hesitates to get out. “We should decide what we are calling this?” She points between me and her. “I don’t know whether to call you my boyfriend or... yeah anyway, I’ll see you for dinner.”

She places a kiss on my lips and slips out of the car. She has no idea how much I want her to be mine. Tonight, I will focus on showing her exactly what it is like to be mine.

I adjust my black wrap dress in the hallway mirror, trying to find the perfect balance between sexy and classy. I turn to the side, scrutinizing my reflection, debating if the dress is too tight or if the neckline is too low. I’m on the verge of changing before I remember the little black dress mantra: “whatever you wear, wear it with confidence.” I take a deep breath and turn away from the mirror, already feeling a knot of anxiety forming in my stomach.

As I enter, my roommate Sophie turns to me, her eyes filled with anticipation. She turns to me as I enter, her eyes filled with anticipation.

“You look amazing!” she exclaims. “Adler won’t be able to resist you.”

I roll my eyes, a slight smile playing on my lips. “I’m not sure if I’m ready for him to resist me.”

Sophie laughs. “You don’t have to worry about that. Adler is totally into you. I mean, I know it’s only your second date, but I can already see wedding bells in your future.”

“Whoa, slow down there,” I say, a hint of laughter in my voice. “I’m not even sure if we’re exclusive or not. I mean, I’m into him, but I don’t know if he’s feeling the same way. Tonight, we’re going to need to have that conversation.”

Sophie nods. “That’s understandable. You deserve to know where you stand with him. And if he can’t commit to you, well, then, you deserve better.”
