I tried to play some songs to boost my courage, but by the time I parked my car, I could barely string a sentence together without my tongue feeling heavy.

I managed to get a barstool at the already crowded bar and ordered a drink just like Kennedy suggested. Sipping the martini, I eyed the room.

Was he here?

How would I know he was the one?

Would he like what he saw?

Would he still want me after seeing what I looked like?

I downed the martini and ordered another from the bartender, my fingers shaking as they curled around the glass. Bringing it to my lips, I took a long sip.

The cool liquid was numbing my nerves a little more with every minute that passed, and as I watched the dimly lit room, I assessed every man, waiting for the one.

Checking the time on my phone, I noticed it was five minutes past the agreed meeting time, and a slither of fear entered my mind. Maybe he wasn’t coming.

Another five minutes passed, and I slammed the empty martini glass to the bar and stood on shaky legs, almost losing my footing as the effects of both drinks slammed into me at once.

I really should have eaten something earlier.

Looking down at my feet I focused on the floor in front of me, needing to get to the safety of my car.

Bumping into a firm shoulder, I tripped over my damn feet and started to sway to the side, regretting the stilettos I had no business wearing. I should have stuck with sneakers.

A warm hand latched onto my arm, steadying me, and I was forced to look into the most beautiful eyes I’d ever seen. Blue eyes, clearer than the Caribbean, pierced mine, and I forgot how to breathe as my heart fluttered wildly in my chest.

“And you, my little bird,” he murmured. “Where do you think you’re going?” His deep voice washed over me, and I blinked slowly. It was him.

Easton.

God had blessed me with the most beautiful man I’d ever laid my eyes on, and I was speechless.

Chapter Fourteen

EASTON

I hadn’t known what to expect when looking for Harley. She’d given me one clue to find her in a bar full of women. The Rose was dimly lit with carpeted floors, dark gray walls, and roses twined around dark chandeliers just out of reach. Music thrummed through the space, fighting the loud chatter of drunk customers that swayed to its hypnotizing notes.

Scanning the few tables, all the women in red were draped over men, and none held my interest longer than a fleeting second.

And then, I saw her.

Dark, almost black, hair hung like fine silk down her back, hiding delicate shoulders that moved with a sigh as she slammed her martini glass down on the bar. She stood quickly, getting the attention of the man beside her, who also stood and reached for her.

I moved quickly through the crowd, needing to get to my little bird before she fled. Watching her every move, I saw a small scowl turn her red lips down, and her long lashes fanned her face as she glanced at the floor before taking an uncertain step forward. In slow motion, she wobbled, fear flashing in her blue eyes. Wrapping my fingers around her forearm, her muscle tensed, and her head snapped up to look at me.

Instantly, I was struck by her beauty.

The scowl dropped, and a soft noise of surprise escaped her parted lips. Her blue eyes scanned my face, growing wide as they swept over my body.

“And you, my little bird—where do you think you’re going?” I swallowed past the lump in my throat. It was really her. She was real.

And fucking stunning.

She blinked slowly, her dark brows furrowing. The spicy scent of her perfume invaded my senses as she stepped closer to me. I focused on her eyes, then her small nose, her flushed cheeks, and her bow lips.

I had dreamed about her for months, and she never came close to anything I could have imagined. I wanted to kiss her. Ruin her perfect, red lips. I wanted her hands around my neck, nails digging into my skin.
