Page 31 of Christmas with You

Here in this pool, surrounded by almost all the most important people in my life, I came to the simple realization that we were going to be okay. Losing the company would not define us. It won’t break the bond we all shared together. It wouldn’t take Ryan away because I was not letting him go.

“Let’s be this happy forever. Let’s sell everything and move out here. It’s cheaper, and the kids are happier out here. You can start up a company here doing something you love – not following your dad’s dream.”

Ryan shook his head, almost in shock from the proposition.

“What about the kids and Celine?”

“We’ll figure it out. Don’t worry about the little things. All that matters is that we stay together – that we get to be this happy every day, baby.” One of the babies climbed onto my back, little legs wrapping around my waist. I instinctively wrapped my arm around the small body that clung to me. “Just think about it.”

I pulled from his embrace and turned around to watch all my kids show me their tricks. I played games with them, and for the first time in years, I had nothing holding me down – no darkness. Only lightness invaded every sense I had.

I was reminded yet again that Ryan saved me all those years ago, and he gave me our beautiful kids. As long as we stayed together, there was nothing the Wilsons couldn’t overcome.
