My heart overflowed with love for them. I tucked her back into bed and exited their shared room to find Amber. She was waiting outside for me, a tear rolling down her cheek.
“What’s wrong?” I reached up and brushed the hot tear off of her flushed cheek, cupping her face with my hand. She leaned into my touch and closed her eyes.
“Don’t leave us,” she pleaded, her lips moving against my hand as she whispered. I closed my eyes and leaned my forehead against her head.
I didn’t want to leave her, but I didn’t see a better option.
“I don’t want to, but I have to do this.” She shuddered against me and shook her head.
“I won’t survive.” My soul screamed for her. “I can’t do this without you.” Her broken confession cut at my already bleeding heart.
“It’s almost Christmas. Let’s not talk about this now please,” I pleaded with her. “I just want to give you a magical, Christmas day, baby.” She looked up, her beautiful, green eyes brimming with tears.
“Don’t you understand, Ryan? I just want to spend Christmas with you. Nothing else will ever be enough.”
