She couldn’t hold me like this queen could.

Shara. Isador. I’d heard them whisper her name before we came to House Ketea’s island. A curse. A prayer. A hope I didn’t dare allow myself to consider.

People talked around me all the time. Over me. Like I wasn’t even there.

I knew she had other kings.

But I hadn’t quite allowed myself to hope she could take another.

Shara tipped her head toward me. “He’s still chained. I want him freed.”

Tono immediately stepped closer and returned to unlocking the chains pinning my arms to my body. The heavy weights fell off me and my shoulders drooped. Relaxed. For the first time in centuries. The strips of material wrapping my arms loosened and slipped off as Tono unwound the restraints.

My hands flexed. My arms. Blood pumping through my limbs.

My blood belonged to Shara Isador now. I’d seen my sister feed many times. Biting her Blood, sinking her fangs into them.

Shudder. Bliss.

Yes. I wanted her bite. Her teeth. In me. More than anything.

Her lips quirked. Too late, I remembered she could hear my thoughts now. If she was listening.

“I am,” she said. “But I must warn you my bite carries an unexpected punch.”

:Punch me with anything.:

The dragon snorted another smoky laugh in my face.

I was getting real tired of his bullshit.

“Join the club,” one of the other Blood muttered. The dragon gave me a dark glare promising pain and lots of it.

They could all hear me.

Fucking great. I didn’t like being an open book. My urges were too dark. Too raw to share widely. I’d have to get better at shutting those emotions down.

“Now take the gag off him,” she ordered.

Too many emotions jolted through me for me to suppress them all. But mostly sheer terror.

If I tasted her…

I won’t be able to stop.

“Look at me.” Her voice was soft but echoed with power to shake the foundations of the world. I met her gaze, and her eyes rolled me under like a riptide. Midnight skies sparkling with a million exploding stars, sucking everything in her path into a black hole. Never to escape.

I didn’t want to escape. Not from her. Unless…

Unless I hurt her. Tore her apart. Then I would rather be dead.

“I will stop you. I’m queen enough to allow this.”

She stepped closer, even though my arms were free. My hands. Strong enough to break her in half.

Tono pressed the key into the mask at the base of my skull. I felt the slight pressure. Heard the faint click. The metal band around my face loosened.

One of the bravest, strongest warriors in my sister’s Blood, other than her alpha, fled.
