Clearly, sleeping with Smoke had been a mistake. Now he thought he had a right to tell me who I could and couldn’t hang out with?

I had no interest in Bones, but I’d had enough of men strong-arming me and I wasn’t in the mood to be bossed around.

New chapter, indeed.

Smoke climbed into the moving truck and shut the door. I walked over to Bones, who was straddling his bike and said, “I’d love to take you up on your offer sometime.”

“Would you now?” he asked slowly.

“Yup. Soon.”

His lips quirked into a smile. “All right then.”

I sauntered to Tavy’s car and climbed into the front seat.

She turned down the radio.

“Hey,” she greeted. “Ready?”

“Ready. How bummed would you be if I took Bones up on his offer to show me around town?”

“Not bummed at all,” she assured me. “He’s hot, but he doesn’t give me the quiverings.”

“Just last night you were talking about being unable to choose between Raze, Kelp, and Bones,” I pointed out.

“Hmm.”

“You have one in mind, don’t you?”

“I have two of them in mind…”

I blinked. “You’re not saying what I think you’re saying…”

“Oh, I think you know exactly what I’m saying. I’m dying for a sandwich.”

My mouth dropped open.

She grinned wickedly. “Shall we get going?”

Chapter 20

“It’s cute,” I said.

“Very cute.” Tavy twirled in the living room. “But tiny.”

“So tiny,” I agreed. “Not enough room for two people.”

“Don’t say that. It’s big enough,” she assured me.

“Even a fold-out couch would have me sleeping in the living room slash kitchen.” I smiled. “It’s okay, Tav. I’ll get my own place.”

“Well, at least it has a good number of windows and high ceilings,” she said. “That bathroom, though. Yikes.”

“Not even a tub,” I remarked.

“Make sure your new place has a tub that I can come over and use when I need a soak after a long day.” Her face fell. “I’m really sad. I wanted to live together. You understand my new job set this up, right? I didn’t pick this place…”

“It’s all good. Honestly, it’s probably for the best that we don’t live together,” I assured her. “I don’t want to keep you up in the middle of night with my ranting and crying over Knox.”
