It wasn’t long after when the darkness found me, and I was no longer human.

Chapter 15

Beauty And The Beast

Devon

Two days later, I sat at my workstation. I logged into the server for the disgusting site to collect the data. I knew if they were watching me, and I didn’t act like business as usual, they’d get suspicious. Except it wasn’t there. Had the feds taken it down that fast? If so, I was damn impressed.

Just then, the burner phone I had charging on the desk lit up and vibrated. I picked up to see a text from the vampires who owned the site.

V Boss: Why is the site down? Get it back up immediately, Rocky!

Me: I didn’t take it down. I was just about to text you because I noticed it too.

There was a two-minute pause before their next reply and if I could sweat bullets like a human, I would have been.

V Boss: Did you tell anyone about this site, Rocky?

Why did they keep using my name? Creepy.

Me: Of course not. Let me see what I can find out and I’ll get back with you.

V Boss: You have one hour.

Me: It’s going to take longer than that. And don’t threaten me, asshole.

I never talked to them like that, but I had them by the balls right now. Obviously, their computer guy or whoever set up the site couldn’t figure it out.

I got no reply after that.

Picking up my regular cell phone, I dialed Parker’s number.

“Hi, Devon,” he answered.

“Hey. Sorry to bother you, but—”

“You’re not bothering me.”

I smiled. “Good to hear. Can we meet? I have a problem.”

“Actually, I was just about to call you, anyway. I also have some questions. Do you want me to pick you up or can we meet someplace close by that you won’t have to Uber to?”

“Let’s just meet at Zombies,” I replied.

“I’ll see you in ten,” he replied. “Bye.”

I smiled and ended the call.

After walking the four blocks, I saw Parker was outside sitting on his motorcycle looking at his phone. He wore a white V-neck T-shirt and his leather Nighthawks vest. His arms looked huge and bulged against the sleeves.

So hot.

“Hey,” I said, walking up with my hands in my pockets.

“You wanna go inside or talk out here?” he asked, pocketing his phone.

“Inside is better,” I replied, looking around. The texts from the vampires had spooked me a little.
