"What about from here?" I ask, closing in.

Her hands go to her hips, swaying as she looks me up and down. Her attention lingers on my bare chest, her eyes filled with the same wanting that I feel.

She wants me.

She’s brave. I’m careful to be sure she wants me before I get closer, knowing what she’s been through. “This okay?”

She nods, those white teeth going down into that full lip that belongs to me. I go to her. I press my body against hers. She yields against me, her hands slipping over the skin of my lower back, feeling the heat of my skin. My hands explore her curves, sliding down over her sweats to cup her firm ass in my hands.

It feels amazing to hold her like this. She's so familiar to me, it's like in the dream when I felt like she was made for me.

It’s like I've known her forever.

My lips find hers, needing to recreate the kiss we had on the street. This time, my tongue slips into her mouth, searching for something deeper. She sighs, melting against me, wanting more.

I pull away, cupping her face in my hands. I stare deep into those beautiful, sparkling eyes of hers, never wanting to look away.

That feeling travels back and forth between us, the same one we shared the very first time our eyes met.

I hold her face. “God, you’re something else. You know that? So fucking beautiful.”

“Thanks.” She looks down, a pink blush rising on her cheeks. Her eyes travel back up to meet mine. “But I came up here to check on you. And tell you something. Not… to… you know… hook up.”

“Huh?” I let my hands drop to my sides. My brows rise in total innocence. “Who’s trying to hook up?” I grab her hand, pulling her over to the bed, wishing it was for more than sitting down together. “What did you want to tell me?”

“Your sister told me you want me to stay here till your boys find Trevor.” She flips her long hair over her shoulder. “I still don’t know how you found me in the first place…” She waits to see if I’m going to spill my secrets. I don’t, so she continues. “But… I think it’s best if I leave tonight.”

Her words have me going cold. She’s not leaving. The image of her standing there, that asshole gripping her by her hair, play over in my mind. She’ll leave this house over my cold, dead body.

Chapter Ten

Beckett

“No,” I say, shaking my head. I cross my arms over my chest, giving her a look made of steel. “You’re not going anywhere.”

She stiffens before me. “Don’t you think you should at least ask me why?”

“No,” I say. “What part of being kidnapped by a total freak did you not understand?”

“Let’s not be rude here, please,” she says. “I have my reasons.”

“Being?”

“The fact that I was just—in your words—kidnapped by a total freak. I’m not ready to spend another night in the house of a total stranger. One who happens to be part of a… mafia?”

I ignore the mafia comment. Yeah, can’t really get around that one. I’m a Bachman. Proud to be one. Will die a Bachman. I hang onto another part of her argument instead, ready to pick it apart. She called me a stranger. I can’t remember the last time I brought a girl home.

“Stranger?” I say. “I saved your life. You saved mine. You’ve had dinner at my house. I introduced you to my sister. You ate her mac-n-cheese. You’ve showered here, for God’s sake.”

“Beckett. It’s been like twenty-four hours.” She eyes me with exasperation.

I have to keep her here. “We’re the Double T’s… we’re officially not strangers.”

That makes her smile. Still, I can tell that she’s not budging.

I count back over the events of the past few days. She’s right. It’s only been a hot minute that we’ve known one another. Still. I don’t care. It never even occurred to me that she wouldn’t stay here till I tell her she’s safe to leave. Didn’t cross my mind that she would fight me on this. I make a fast plan.

“Fine.” I run a frustrated hand through my hair. “I’ll get my sister to stay. Would that make you more comfortable?”
