Angela stood nearby, and I aimed in her direction, Lena right behind me.

“She ready?” I asked when I reached her.

The human witch had pulled her thick curly hair up into a black beanie and donned all black clothes like Thane. She nodded and tightened her grip on the staff. “But I wish she could come with us.”

I rested my hand on her shoulder. “You’ll be in excellent hands. Thane will protect you and jump you guys away if things don’t go as planned.”

“If only that made me feel better, but I appreciate you for trying.” Angela gave me a rueful smile.

Considering how little time she’d spent in the supernatural world, I had to give the girl some credit. Few humans would acclimate as fast as she had. Maybe practicing Wicca beforehand made it easier.

Whatever the reason, I was glad to have her on our side and about to marry my best friend.

The tingling sensation of my soul link winked out. The bond was there, just barely, which meant Thane had jumped his group to the Otherworld.

This show was officially on the road.

As the minutes ticked by, my nerves crumbled. I chewed my bottom lip raw as I gazed around at the room, not really seeing faces but constantly searching for the one that held my heart.

I wouldn’t feel anything through our link unless the worst happened, and then all hell would break loose because I would lose my ever-loving mind. Nothing and no one would stop me from ripping Colin apart, even if it meant losing my life.

I couldn’t live without Thane.

When I was convinced that the link was about to fade, Ivan popped back into view bedside Adam. He was breathless but smiling, and I released a huge sigh of relief.

“We surprised a small unseelie patrol, but the way is clear,” he announced, earning a resounding cheer that vibrated down to my bones.

Adam met Kit’s gaze and nodded.

About fucking time.

Exhilaration and anticipation zinged through my limbs and veins in equal parts, mixing with the vibrant energy spreading through the convention center rooms.

Everyone fell silent as Kit raised her arms, palms facing up, and chanted. Inside the circle, wind gusts tugged at her clothes and hair, and lightning pierced the linoleum floor, sending chunks flying. Several Community members backed up with startled looks on their faces.

It was hard not to feel nervous with the vast amount of magic Kit was harnessing, even though she’d told us nothing would leave the circle. Proving her point, the pieces of linoleum struck an invisible barrier and bounced back toward her.

A spiraling oval built from nothing but air, light, and magic materialized outside the chalk in front of Kit. It expanded until it stood several feet taller and much wider than she was. Mist and shadows were all that billowed within, but Kit lowered her arms and took a deep breath.

“It’s ready,” she said, her eyes somewhat glazed as she held the spell steady.

Without delay, Adam ordered various groups through the portal.

Ivan appeared at my side, his eyes glowing yellow from his recent realm walk. “Need a lift?”

I grinned and took his hand. “Absolutely. I hate portal travel.”

Seriously, portals were awful. They were cold, desolate wastelands that I never wanted to experience again. It was a damn shame that realm walkers didn’t exist in larger numbers or that they couldn’t jump more than a handful of people at a time.

After Angela took a moment to kiss Kit goodbye, she gripped Ivan’s free hand, and I grabbed Lena’s. I met my best friend’s worried gaze within the chalk circle and nodded, understanding her silent plea to keep Angela safe. Then the world disappeared.

A moment later, soft grass formed beneath my feet. I’d only been in the fae realm twice, but I recognized where we were. The only difference was the strange lack of sunlight.

We stood atop a hill facing a wall of thick, towering trees with branches that bent and curled in odd formations. A worn dirt path stretched through them, leading away from the capital city.

“Oh my goddess,” Angela whispered. Her face was paler than usual, her eyes open wide as she stared at something behind me.

I turned to look and gasped.
