“Roger that,” Carter’s gal replied.

“Evans, if this flows down right, Team two will bring the package to you. Take it back to your hotel, lock it down, and wait for our arrival.”

“Roger that.”

The next ninety seconds crept by in slow motion. Gunshots rang out in stereo, voices yelled, then I heard the grunt of bodies hitting the ground. I held my breath and leaned forward, trying to catch a glimpse of things. I was too far away to differentiate between good and bad guys in the dark.

“Package in hand and headed toward carrier,” Jordyn’s voice crackled over the coms.

“10-4. Suspects apprehended. Area clear,” Carter replied. “Evans, take off as soon as the package is delivered.”

I hopped out of my truck as soon as I saw four people headed my way. Carter’s better half was leading the way, sweeping the area as they approached. Only when they reached me did she lower her weapon and smile. Genevieve rushed past her and ran into my arms. Her body shook with her sobs as she wrapped herself around me.

“Oh, thank god. I thought we were going to die.” Genevieve held tight.

“Shh, pet, I’ve got you.” I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close and rubbing her back.

“You’ve got one tough woman there,” Jordyn said with pride. “She gave those goons a tongue lashing that could flay the skin off of the toughest Dom at the club. Head held high even as they were pushing her around.”

Jordyn’s partner helped Kendra into the back of the truck, settling the blanket I kept in the back seat across her lap, and stood stroking her hand, attempting to comfort her.

“Come on, let’s go.” I unwrapped one arm and turned with Genevieve still under my other arm. “Tell Carter we’ll be waiting.”

“Roger that.” She saluted. “And, Evans?” She waited for me to look back at her. “You did good, even if you didn’t follow our instructions perfectly.” She grinned and motioned for her partner to join her before they jogged back toward the rest of their crew.

I settled Genevieve in the passenger seat, glanced at Kendra, who gave me a small smile, then quickly joined them. I backed up to the bend and into the field on the side of the road to turn around. I hit the headlights and took off back toward town and my hotel. I grabbed Genevieve’s hand and threaded our fingers together as we drove in silence. A truck cab was not the place to talk, and they would be bombarded with questions soon enough.

“Brian?”

I glanced at Genevieve and squeezed her hand. “Yeah?”

“My answer is yes.” Her words were almost a whisper.

“What?” I was confused about what question she might be answering.

“You and me and whatever this might be,” she waved her hand between us, “my answer is yes.”

Fireworks exploded inside my head along with every fantasy my mind had composed over the last few days. My body reacted just as quickly. I took a deep breath, calming my racing heart, and mentally telling my cock now was not the time to jump to attention.

“Okay.” I grinned at her and tried not to speed the rest of the way to the hotel.
