Nicholas’s always been able to anticipate my needs before I can ask. It’s one of the many reasons he’s my personal driver.

Me: Yes. I’ll send someone to relieve you.

I switch to my monitoring app and watch as Misty kicks off her heels in the building’s entryway before picking them up and making her way up the stairs. I tense when a large, burly man appears on the steps, looking her over.

I’m about to text Nicholas to get the fuck in there when she waves at the stranger, and even through the feed, I can see the wide smile she gives him.

The man relaxes, completely disarmed by my little nymph. They say a few words, and I make a note to have Matthias add microphones into the system. Misty pauses to open her door, and I switch the cameras to see her apartment. She drops her shoes in the now familiar living room. I’ve been watching her movements since the system was installed and have mapped out every possible weak spot. There are only two entry points, a balcony and the front door, both of which I made sure are firmly secured.

I’d prefer a better system on the patio but haven’t figured out a way to get it installed.

The apartment super could be bribed into doing it, but I don’t like the idea of him being in her place.

Misty disappears into her room, and I curse under my breath there isn’t a camera in there. She’s left the door open, giving me a sliver view of her space. When she appears, her dress is undone, revealing the side of her back, but she steps out of sight before I can examine her.

I clench around the phone, trying to mentally encourage her to come back, when Bash slaps me on the back.

“You’re looking pretty hard at that phone.”

I meet his gaze until he looks away.

He clears his throat. “What was all of that ‘it’s a tradition for the heir to get married’ shit about?” He grabs my arm. “And for that matter, why weren’t you freaking the fuck out?”

“I created it,” I deadpan and shrug him off. He steps back, hands up in surrender. Even my family knows not to touch me.

Xander leans forward. “Why would you do that?”

“Because the girl I’m going to marry needs some extra motivation.”

“Who is it?” Bash asks, curiosity filling his voice. Now that we’ve gotten onto the topic, he’s not going to drop it.

“The Bruins’ PR rep.”

Bash laughs. “Fuck, I’ve seen her. She’s hot.”

I glare, and he shuts up. “You’re not too old for me to beat you.”

Xander cuts in, pulling my attention from Bash.“And…you think this random girl’s just going to marry you?”

“She will. She won’t have a choice by the time I’m done.”

“Fuck, brother. That’s scary. You know, you could always ask her,” Xander adds.

“I like my deals to be secured before moving forward,” I respond coldly, making it clear I’m not open to their suggestions.

“Is that why you had me monitor her building?” Matthias asks like he doesn’t already know the answer but is happy to fuck with me.

“Oh shit. This is getting good.” Bash collapses onto the sofa, rubbing his hands together.

Xander, the most reserved out of all of us, shoots Matthias a look.

“Don’t worry. I refused the bathroom and bedroom. Let’s just hope she’s not the type to walk around naked.”

“Watch it,” I warn.

“You know, this whole desperate stalker thing is a good look for you.”
