“That’s nice of you. I’ll think about it.”

“She’s meant to be incognito.” Manny rolls his eyes. “I’m not sure how that’s gonna go down.”

I’m touched that a man I just met is concerned about my welfare. They really do seem close-knit around here and I like that. It feels like a family.

“Actually,” I say. “I have been thinking about a change lately.” I flick a lock of my hair up in the air. “I’m getting tired of the bleach and my roots are starting to grow out. The blonde is easily recognizable.”

Manny’s eyes go wide. “For the love of God, I’m so glad you said it.” He puts a hand over his chest. “I mean, you’re gorgeous, don’t get me wrong. But I know people. You’d look amazing with darker hair and a little sun…a couple of inches off the ends would work wonders.”

“I have been cooped up lately,” I admit. “I kind of hid just after…the incident.”

“How are you feeling?” Luna asks, looking sympathetic. “I’m so sorry that happened to you.”

The girls nod in agreement.

I shrug. “I had no idea he’d go and do that, obviously.”

Again, I don’t want anyone to feel sorry for me. That isn’t my intention. But I’m also not a troublemaker. Lisa showed absolutely no remorse and was so smug about it. Like she couldn’t wait to get it off her chest for the cameras.

“You’re way prettier than her,” Deanna tells me. “Like a million percent.”

I smile. “Thanks.”

“We should all go shopping,” Luna says, excitedly.

Manny frowns again. I smile at the fact he’s worried about me going out and he’s taking it seriously. It seems I don’t just have Rock and Cash in my corner.

“We’d have to run it by Cash,” Jas says.

“That won’t be a problem.” Deanna smirks. “When works for you, hon?”

Girl time is what I need, though Manny tagging along won’t be a hardship. I can already tell he’s working out what hair color might suit me, and I’m glad to have a change. This might be fun after all.

“I’ve got all the time in the world,” I say, tucking back into my meal. “Lead the way to transformation heaven.”

How's the blonde?

Me

She’s cute, if that’s what you’re askin’

I sigh. Of course my brother wants all the details, just like everyone else. Right now, there isn’t much to tell. And what I do know, I’m confused by.
