“No.”

“Then what do you do all day?”

I take a slow breath. Why does it sound like an accusation?

“I spend time on my charity work, mainly,” I say. “It’s something I’m passionate about.”

The elevator finally dings, and I’m relieved when Rock holds the doors open while he allows me to step out first into a massive foyer.

This place is so new I can smell the fresh paint.

He rolls the suitcases out one by one, and I look around, impressed.

Rock whistles low between his teeth. “This place is nice.”

I turn to him. “You’ve never been in here before?”

He shakes his head. “First time. They have state-of-the-art security. Nobody can get up here without ID, not even the prospects. Only myself, Cash, and the club’s Enforcer and Sergeant at Arms. They’re trustworthy.”

“Are you completely sure they all are?” I give him a cheeky smile and his eyes dip to my throat for half a second.

I see a storm in his eyes…like he’s holding back. Could it be that I’m making Rock nervous? I almost laugh at the notion. As if a man like him would be intimidated by little old me. He probably thinks I’m a good girl freak who has a crush on him.

And while he may have that crush part right, he has no idea I feel like a ticking time bomb that hasn’t gone off yet. I feel it in the pit of my stomach. All the rage. All the pain. All the hurt. It’s all mounting.

Maybe it’s a good thing I am here. I can fall apart without the media circling, and in a few weeks, it’ll all have died down. Everyone will have forgotten all about it and hopefully this stalker business will be a thing of the past. Some crazed fan who moved onto greener pastures.

“You flirtin’ with me, Trouble?”

I shake my head. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”

He spreads his hand out in front of him. “Ladies first.”

I smile, pushing the foyer doors open to a beautiful expansive living room, the kitchen and dining combined, and it all overlooks the city.

Giant floor to ceiling windows, and sliding doors that lead out onto a huge patio. The view is impressive.

I walk toward the large bunch of yellow roses in a vase on the dining table. There’s a card. It reads: I hope you enjoy your new apartment, princess. It won’t be long until you’re back home. I promise. Dad x

At least he left a note. I lean forward and take in the glorious scent.

Yellow roses are my favorite and it was a nice touch. I will, however, have to go shopping for some candles and other decor items because, while it’s nice here, it’s very beige and boring. The only color are the cushions on the couch, a deep blue and white stripe that match the rug.

Everything is opulent, including the large chandelier dangling over the kitchen table.

It can seat twelve people. I shake my head.

I put Pirate’s carrier down, unlatching the door, and he sprints out, darting across the living room and down the hall.

“I need to get his litter box organized,” I say.

“You have that in your luggage?”

I turn to him. “Of course. Well, just the crystals. My dad had the box delivered ahead of time. What kind of cat mama would I be?”

“There’s also a rooftop lap pool,” Rock tells me. “Or so I’m told, and a sun deck.”

“You read the brochure?” I quip, running my hand over the plush couch.
