He’s right. At least that makes me feel better.

“Go wash up.” His words are final…

My hands still shake as I clutch the wheel. I know Aspyn is looking at me with concern in her eyes, and she should be. Shit went down tonight. Shit I may never be able to explain. How could I? We may have just confessed our love for one another, but was that just in the heat of the moment?

Is Aspyn Ashley Huntley really going to come down here and be my ol’ lady? Or will she leave like everyone else in my life?

When we get back to the apartment, Rodeo and Giggs stay downstairs while we ride up to the top floor in more silence.

Tara keeps quiet, avoiding looking at either of us. Hopefully, she’ll be gone in the morning because I don’t like her. She looks down her nose at everyone, and I can tell by the look on her face that she knows I’m not good enough. Like I need her approval.

“For what it’s worth, the assholes deserved it,” I say, looking right at her.

She turns to cast her steely gaze on me. “Did people die?”

I shake my head. Now is the time to lie through my teeth. I’m not telling this chick anything about what happened. It’s club business. If she runs to the cops, this could be a problem.

“Of course not, but this club protects its own. And when we go after people, it’s because they’re doin’ harm to others.”

I feel Aspyn’s fingers link through mine, and she squeezes. The comfort I feel from that small touch makes my heart thump in my chest. She’s with me. No matter what.

Maybe we don’t know one another that well, but I know how I feel.

And I feel everything for my sweet mystery girl.

She says nothing more, and I’m relieved when the doors finally open and I let the girls step through ahead of me.

Tara officially hates me, and this club, and I’ve no doubt that she plans on making my life hell if I want to be with Aspyn.

Just as I’m stepping out, my phone rings. It’s Cash.

“Glad I caught you,” he says. “Just got a call from Tommy.”

I glance at Aspyn instinctively as she talks in a low voice to Tara. It sounds like she’s trying to smooth things over.

“Is everythin’ okay?”

“Beth has been arrested.”

“What?” I turn away and head toward the office. I feel Aspyn’s eyes on me as I retreat.

“The police think the email was sent from her office. They took her in for questioning, but the evidence they found is pretty damning.”

I’m pissed at hearing that. If I hadn’t been so busy with what went down tonight, something that will haunt me for the rest of my days, I would’ve uncovered this earlier.

“Fuck, Cash.”

“So, we’re sittin’ tight to see where it goes.”

“Alright.” I’m too tired to hear any more. Not that this makes any sense.

“You good?”

“I’ll get over it.”

“Don’t overthink things. It’s done.”

I run a hand over my face. “Okay.”
