Still. The police haven’t cleared Beth yet, not that they’d know jack shit about surveillance or how to find real information, but she did get brought in for questioning.

I know a lot more about Beth St. Michael and her agency than I did yesterday. I’ve got a list of all current employees, but will the police go and question any of them? Oh, no. They wait until something worse happens before they intervene. A stalking case like this doesn’t rouse their investigative skills or their will to catch a criminal, as they’ve got better things to be doing. Especially since Tommy fired all of his security team.

“You think Forger’s gonna go down tonight?” Priest asks me.

While the spiritual advisor for the club doesn't always come out when we have business to deal with, it’s all hands on deck while we storm the underground compound Tag’s been watching recently.

“I fuckin’ hope so.”

I feel his gaze on me. “How is the li’l lady?”

Flicking my eyes to his, I see the smirk on his lips and the look in his eye. “Why don’t you ask her yourself?” I’m still pissed, even though technically he did nothing wrong. I’m more mad at myself about having a panic attack.

He gives me a chin lift. “Do you have panic attacks often?”

I shrug. “Not in a while.”

He turns back to looking out the windshield of the van we have parked down the street. “She’s a handful.” His words hang in the air. “Got a lot of obstacles in your way with that one.”

I roll my eyes, even though he doesn’t see me do it. “Don’t know what you’re talkin’ about, brother.”

“Right. That’s why her eyes light up every time you walk in a room.”

“Happens a lot,” I say, feigning indifference. “She’s only human.”

He snorts. “You tappin’ it?”

I take a long breath. Normally, I’m not so coy about my conquests but, frankly, it’s none of his business. Plus, he’s close to Cash, and though he’s a brother and all, he’ll be less inclined to keep this to himself.

I turn to him. “Am I in confession?”

He smirks. “Do you wanna be?”

“I’m not sure you have enough holy water to rid me of the things I’ve done, oh holy father.”

He shakes his head. “You know, I’ve heard that a lot.”

“Not surprised.”

“Aspyn is a smart girl,” he goes on. “Does as she’s told. Gotta love me a submissive woman.” I know he’s stirring the pot, but I still don’t like hearing her name come out of his mouth.

I clench my jaw. “I wouldn’t know.”

“Rock. Give it up. I’m not here to judge, I’m here to help.”

I snort. “What do I need help with, exactly?”

“Not fuckin’ it up.”

“She’s been here a week. I think we’re good.”

He shakes his head. “She’s worried, you know, about the stalker.”

I frown. She’s never told me anything like that. Nothing.

I don’t like the idea that she's confided in him and not me, even though Priest has been known to get blood from a stone.

“I’m sure she is, but she’s safe here.”
