My body stiffens, then explodes into a million bits and pieces as I shout his name at the top of my lungs. I seem to convulse as the orgasm goes on and on, rippling through me in waves as never-ending as the ocean, itself.

When I finally melt back into the mattress, Jesse gently pulls his finger free. Keeping his cock buried deep inside me, he leans over, brushes my hair aside, and sinks his teeth into my neck. I scream as a second orgasm rips through me, and his cock jerks inside me as he comes again, too.

He sucks at my neck until the aftershocks fade, then releases my flesh to lick at the wound. Then he presses a gentle kiss to my cheek.

“I love you, Eden,” he whispers.

“I love you, too,” I whisper back.

“Now, you can rest,” he says, pulling his cock free and wrapping his arms around me.

As easy as if I were a rag doll, he pulls me up as he climbs into bed, draping my top half over his chest. His arms link tightly around me as I snuggle into him, my eyes falling closed as a serene smile curls my lips.

I can rest as long as I’m in my mate’s arms.

And there’s nowhere else in this world I’d rather be.

WORTH THE RISK

Iwatch as the soft early morning light filters in through the sheer curtains, my body curved around Jesse’s in the exact position we landed in after he made love to me last night. Neither of us has moved an inch, our bodies frozen in that singularly perfect moment in time.

I stiffen as the sound of muffled footsteps tickles my ears, then sit up quickly as the sound stops on the other side of our hotel room door. Jesse levers upright beside me, both of us watching the wooden panel and waiting for whoever is out there to knock.

I hear a soft breath, then the sound of paper crinkling before a folded sheet is slid through the miniscule gap between the door and the floor. While I stare at it, Jesse takes action, zipping to the door in a blink before yanking it open.

I follow behind him in a burst of speed, plucking the note from the floor as he glances up and down the corridor. I suddenly realize we’re both still naked, but the thought is a mere blip in my consciousness as I unfold the paper to see words written across it in slanted, hurried handwriting.

“There’s no one out there,” Jesse says, closing the door and turning the lock before moving closer.

Reading the short, succinct note, I meet Jesse’s eyes and hand it to him, saying, “Invisibility spell, probably.”

“Meet us at the Grundelier village at dusk. Guinevere,” he reads aloud, then looks up to meet my gaze. “No fucking way.”

“What?” I blurt, truly surprised by his reaction. “Of course, we’re going.”

Jesse shakes his head, crumpling the slip of paper in a tight fist as he stalks past me. He grabs his shorts from the floor beside the bed and yanks them on. Memories of our activities last night rush through my mind, but I push them away and focus on his stubborn frown.

“They might have some information we can use, Jesse. We need to hear them out.”

“Or it could be a trap. A ruse meant to get us on their turf so they can take us out,” he shoots back.

“They’ll never get close enough to do any damage,” I say. “Especially if we have Erik, Leif, and Steph with us.”

Jesse’s shaking his head again before I even finish. “Think, Eden. Remember what Bernadette said about them before we left L.A.”

I blink a few times, recalling the conversation of which he’s speaking.

“And stay away from any Brimmwise witches. Avoid them at all costs. They dabble in the dark arts, and they’re dangerous. If they find out what you are…”

“It would be bad.”

“They would try to use you for their own agenda.”

I shake off the memory and shoot Jesse a pleading look. “I know they’re dangerous. But so are we. Bernadette gave that warning out of concern because she still sees Steph and me as helpless humans. But we aren’t helpless. Not anymore.”

“Whatever they have to say is not worth the risk,” he says, but his staunch expression wavers a bit.
