I want him to enjoy this, not worry about me.

Then his hand releases my hair, completely, and I hear the smack of his palm against the wall next to the other hand. I look up to see his gaze locked on my mouth, watching as my lips glide over his sensitive skin. I move faster, my hand milking him while I suck and lick at a frenzied pace.

I’ve never really enjoyed doing this before, but having Jesse in my mouth, hearing the little sounds he makes when I do something he likes is driving me wild. I shouldn’t have waited so long to try it. This might be my new favorite thing.

“Eden,” he whispers, his hand moving into my hair once more. “I’m going to come down your throat, and when I do, you’re going to come, too.”

I whimper around his cock and suck harder, pumping my fist in time with the slight rocking of his hips. He’s breathing hard now, a pure reflex since he doesn’t actually need the oxygen. The sounds of the air puffing through his lips spurs me on, letting me know he’s getting closer. Which means I’m getting closer.

My core is throbbing with need despite having just come three fucking times. That’s what Jesse does to me. My love and desire for him knows no bounds.

He freezes and grunts, and the second his salty release hits the back of my throat, my own climax explodes through me. I swallow quickly, and a pleased sound purrs in Jesse’s throat. I release his cock and pant through my own release, and his knees hit the floor in front of me before his mouth is on mine, kissing me deeply and passionately until the aftershocks subside.

“That was exquisite,” he whispers against my lips before kissing me once more. “I love you.”

“I love you, Jesse,” I reply, wrapping my arms around his neck as he stands and lifts me from the floor.

He turns and heads for the door, holding me against him with one arm as he reaches for the knob with the other. Swinging it open, he carries me toward the bed, setting me down gently. He stares at me for a moment before cocking his head, then bends over to pull up his boxers and jeans with a sigh.

“I’d love to stay in this bed with you all day,” he says giving me an apologetic look, “but Erik is calling me. Bernadette is ready to examine my father and determine if she can fix him or not.”

I slide off the mattress to stand beside him. “I’m coming with you.”

One corner of his mouth curves up, and he holds out a hand for me to take. “I never assumed otherwise.”

Grinning back, I slide my hand into his and walk beside him from the room. This is how we face the world. Hand-in-hand. Together.

Always.

A TRAITOR IN OUR MIDST

Lunch with Steph and Bernadette feels like old times. Well, except for the house full of vampires, Steph’s new knowledge of the witches’ existence and the fact that she, herself, is one, and the threat of an all-out war hanging over our heads.

When Erik called Jesse to tell him Bernadette was ready to take a look at Franklin, we were set to go straight up to the king’s room, but my stomach growled loudly, and Jesse insisted we eat first. I’d barely picked at my breakfast earlier, my hunger disappearing as Bernadette and Steph explained what led them here. Steph admitted she was starving, too, so we took a detour to the dining room before heading up to see Franklin. Jesse made himself absent, giving us some privacy to chat…well, as much privacy as we could have in this place.

By the time we’re done eating, Bernadette has grown noticeably quiet. Steph shrugs when I send her a questioning look, but before either of us can ask what’s changed her mood, Bernadette expels a heavy breath and meets my gaze.

“Fetch your vampire. I’m ready to examine the king.”

Jesse walks into the room before I can respond, and I give him a tight smile before returning my attention to Bernadette and murmuring, “Thank you for doing this.”

She brushes off my gratitude with a shake of her head and stands. “I’m doing this for all of us––the witches, the humans, and the vampires. If the king dies by a witch’s hand and a war breaks out, it will devastate the entire planet.”

Jesse holds out an arm, inviting us to precede him. “Right this way.”

We’re quiet as we ascend the stairs, the sound of our tempered breaths and footsteps are the only thing breaking the heavy silence. My muscles are coiled and rigid, and nervous energy washes through me faster and faster as we reach the king’s floor and start the trek down the corridor to his bedroom.

Bernadette’s examination will determine whether or not she can heal Franklin. And if she can’t…

“What is she doing up here?”

My head jerks up at the growling voice, and I flinch back at the sight of Jesse’s sister. Jasmine has always looked like an antique china doll, her face and body locked in frozen perfection. But now? Now she looks like a feral beast, her beautiful face marred by a vicious snarl as she approaches us from the direction of the king’s suite.

“Stand down, Jasmine,” Jesse says firmly.

Her steps falter at Jesse’s order, and she frowns at him before going perfectly still, that angel’s façade back in place.
