“I promise. I’ll see you tonight.”

Olivia and I meet eyes over Elijah’s head, and we hover in that moment for what seems like minutes instead of seconds before I look back at my son.

“I gotta go.”

“Okay, okay. Don’t forget your promise. I love you.”

“Love you too, buddy.”

With that, I’m out the door and in my car. My immediate thought is how badly I want to go back inside, and that is a big fucking problem.

Chapter 3

Olivia

As Noah leaves, I can feel my cheeks burn so hot I’m afraid I’ll burst into flames. Something stirs deep in my core that I’ve never felt, not like this.

Sure, I haven’t had the chance to truly date, considering I’ve been a nanny for the past five years, but I also didn’t care before. There’s been the odd date here and there, but making time for it was never a priority.

Now? Now, I’m wondering what I’ve been missing all these years.

The newness surrounding these feelings is intense and strange, and I’ve never felt as turned on by anything in my life.

But I’m not dumb. I know the rules.

You don’t date your boss. You don’t date a guy twice your age. And you don’t date your dad’s best friend.

What happened in his office was a fluke. Sure, it was anything but innocent, but it’s over. Just some shameless flirting.

So why do I want more of it so badly?

There’s just something about him. About Noah.

The way he looked when he answered the door had me forgetting to breathe. The silver streaks at his temples and his cropped beard were styled to perfection, that perfectly tousled look, like it was all effortless.

His suit was obviously tailored precisely for him, too. It hugged his lithe body in all the right ways.

A deep charcoal suit with a navy button-down beneath the formfitting jacket had been paired with slim trousers that showcased his fantastic ass.

I’d always been a fan of a nice butt, and when you paired it with big, strong hands? Yeah, it was no wonder I was practically drooling.

And the glare he cast my way when I’d suggested cookies. Pushing his buttons had been way too much fun, and a strange part of me loved watching him struggle with his composure.

Poking the bear to find out where he’ll snap should not be so exhilarating, but I can’t help it.

A large part of me wants to help this family and mend their relationship. But there’s also a part that wants to tease Noah and see what all those hidden muscles can do.

I’ve never been considered a brat, but when he was standing inches away from me as I leaned on his desk, challenging him had been too deliciously tempting.

The way his arms framed me, and his eyes fell to my mouth. I could smell his cologne.

Feel his breath on my skin and imagine what his hands would feel like on my body…

“We should probably go soon, too. School’s at 8:15.”

I jump slightly and look back at Elijah. I’m fantasizing about his father when I’m supposed to be taking this kid to class, and it’s so unlike me.

Fuck. You’re at work, Liv. Come on. What’s wrong with you?
