I turn around and see a huge robot man fighting some type of monster.

“What are you watching?”

“It’s a Gundam show, Dad.”

There’s an air of duh in his tone, like I should know this. I shrug and scoop up my travel mug from the kitchen.

Liv’s taken care of adding the creamer, and there’s even a breakfast bar sitting on top of it.

I smile. “Thanks. Definitely do not have time for breakfast.”

She steps in closer and whispers so Elijah can’t hear.

“Please don’t get in an accident because you’re speeding. You can’t pay me if you’re dead, and you definitely can’t…take care of my other needs, either.”

Heat licks through her eyes, and I’m sure I send it right back. Yup, the death of me.

Eyeing the clock, I realize how much later I’m actually going to be, thanks to morning traffic that I usually miss, and dash for the door, snagging my keys and briefcase from Liv, who’s holding them up for me.

“Love you! I’ll see you later!”

As I start to pull the garage door closed behind me, I hear Liv speaking to Elijah.

“He’s running late because he stayed up too late. Very irresponsible.”

I stop the door quickly and make eye contact with her, answering her smirk with a glare. As she bites back a laugh, I mouth, You’re going to pay for that.

Chapter 17

Olivia

True to his word, Noah both works late Wednesday and makes it home in time for Elijah’s game Thursday night.

“I’ve got him all changed. So you two will be good to go as soon as you ditch the suit.”

I gesture to Noah’s clothes, and he shakes his head.

“No! I can’t possibly leave the suit behind.”

The sarcastic joke comes a bit out of nowhere, and I’m happy to see I’m rubbing off on him.

I smile, remembering just what we did last night when Noah finally got home.

“I’d hate to see you get your fancy suit all dirty, Mr. Steele. Perhaps you’d be more comfortable watching from the car, so you don’t have to risk it?”

Elijah steps closer, tossing his ball into his mitt over and over, and cocks his head.

“You’re going to wear that?”

Noah and I both burst out laughing, and he takes his son in a big hug and musses up his hair.

“No! Why does everyone think I only wear suits?”

Noah playfully glares, and Elijah and I just shrug.

“Because you usually do, Dad.”

“Fine. Just give me a second to get changed, and we can all get going to the field.”
