Mr. Steele takes his place behind his desk, his fresh shirt pristine and crisp.

“I have more. Those are for you to clean yourself up.” He nods at the towels in my hands. “So, you’re Olivia. John’s daughter, correct?”

“Yes, that’s me. And you’re Mr. Steele. You need a nanny, correct?” I sit straighter in my chair, tucking soggy hair behind my ear.

“You can call me Noah. And yes, I need help running the house. Did John tell you anything about what to expect?”

Cool intensity fills his eyes as he crosses his arms and leans back.

“A little. My dad said you’re going through a divorce and need help with Elijah because your business demands a lot of attention. Dad’s job is similar, so I have a basic understanding of what you’ll probably need.”

Noah’s jaw clenches when I mention the divorce, and he furrows his brows.

“Leave it to John to be blunt.” He reaches into his desk and pulls out what looks like a list. “This is a basic rundown of what I need help with and what I expect to be done at the house while I’m working.”

He hands it to me, and while it’s long and pretty strict, it’s not anything I haven’t seen before from the other families I’ve worked with.

“All right. This looks doable. Many of the other families I worked with while abroad had similar requirements. I should let you know that I like to squeeze in some time for fun, too. Elijah was so sweet. I’d love to show him that we can have a good time and still get things done.”

Noah adjusts in his chair, narrowing his eyes at me. There’s scrutiny in that green stare, and my cheeks heat once more.

“Look, Ms. Francis, I—”

“Please, call me Liv.” I smile.

“Liv.”

Noah clears his throat and circles his desk to sit on the edge closest to me. As he leans against it, he crosses one ankle over the other.

His leg brushes mine, but he doesn’t pull back. Did someone bump up the thermostat when we walked in?

“I run a tight ship. My job is…demanding. And there are several things I need to juggle. I need to know you can handle what I’m asking for.”

Meeting his gaze, I raise an eyebrow and smile.

“Trust me, Noah. I can rise to any challenge you throw at me. I’m here to provide balance and assistance. You shouldn’t have to stress over basic day-to-day stuff with so much going on. That’s where I come in.”

“Good to know.”

Noah stands, offering me a hand to do the same.

“I’ll call tonight with my decision. Same number you provided on your resume?”

“Yes.”

Our hands are still joined, and Noah stands just inches from me. My gaze flicks to his lips before I quickly meet his eyes again. Oh, Olivia! Come on!

But then I notice Mr. Steele’s eyes tracing a line from my neck to the top of my dress. Oh, this is bad.

“Good. I’ll reach out tonight, then.”

“I look forward to hearing from you.”

Noah clears his throat, shaking his head, and stepping back. I finally blink and do the same, heading for his door.

“It’s a left at the end of the hall for the elevators. Can you find your way this time?”

“Ha!” I look at the floor. “I think I’ll manage. Thank you.”
