“Of course.”

The handshake ends, and Dad steps back to me with a completely different demeanor.

"My baby girl. You’re all grown up, huh?” His smile is laced with a bit of sadness.

“You have no idea.”

Dad’s brows raise in question again, and a curt laugh pushes out of me.

Noah steps up next to me, wrapping his arm around my waist. “How’s your heart?”

“Fine. Why?”

Noah looks down at me, and it’s my turn to offer a single nod.

Together we say, “We’re pregnant.”

I’m prepared to step between the men, but instead, my dad just stumbles backward. I quickly run up to him, putting an arm under his.

“Holy shit.”

A genuine laugh erupts from me. “That’s what Noah said.”

“Wait. Really? Are you okay? Is that the only reason for this, or…”

His words trail off. I shake my head, helping Dad to find his footing.

“No, not at all. Noah didn’t know until after he said he loved me.”

“Your sickness?”

“Yup. I’m a few weeks along.”

“And you want this? For real?”

Noah comes up behind me, and I smile at him over my shoulder. Again we speak simultaneously.

“More than anything.”

Chapter 34

Noah

“Babe! My dad is here!”

I hear Liv call from the other room and take one last look at the new nursery. We’ve transformed one of the two extra guest rooms and completely done it up for Baby Two.

From the beginning, Liv has staunchly opposed learning the gender of said fetus, so we’ve taken to lovingly calling it Baby Two.

“Coming!”

I run my hand over the wooden ledge of the crib, remembering how long ago it was I did this last and sigh. I hope I remember what to do.

When I get to the foyer, Liv is hugging her dad, who’s surprisingly brought along a date, and Elijah comes running down the stairs from his room.

“Whoa, put on the brakes, bud. I don’t want you crashing into the wall or something.”

I ruffle his hair as he passes by, heading straight to the table. This kid really does love Liv’s cooking.
