He saw me waving and came running.

“Hey, beautiful bride. I thought you didn’t want anyone to see you until the big moment. Cat, you look…wow. I could cry right now and I’m a man’s man.”

“Come on, I need you to drive me somewhere?”

“N…now?”

“Yes. We’re going to find my groom.”

The hardest part was stuffing my huge dress in Marco’s BMW and finding a way to sit that would not ruin my appearance. God, Hugo was going to pay for this, I’d make sure of that.

Marco drove like crazy, and managed to get me to the address in record time; sure enough, there it was – Hugo’s car. He was really on a job on our wedding day. For some reason, I’d hoped it was all some kind of stupid joke.

“Wait here, Marco. I’ll go in and get Hugo and then we can all go.”

“Cat,” He stopped me with a hand on my shoulder, “I’m not sure about this. The door is closed, the blinds are down. Maybe I should go in. I don’t think you should walk into whatever’s going on inside.”

Yeah, like I would give a fuck right now.

“Marco, wait here.”

I got out of the car and walked in the middle of the street, dressed like I just escaped the Disney castle, and everyone around turned their heads to look at me. It was fair because you don’t see a bride walking alone in Manhattan with thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry on her every day.

I walked to the door and took a deep breath before pushing it open, praying to God to give me patience, because if I’d had strength, I would have killed him.

The moment the door opened, I heard the voices yelling. There were at least six men there. Two of them were holding a guy pinned to the wall while he was barking something in another language that I didn’t recognize. There were a few other guys around and next to the bar I found my prince charming. He was dressed in his tuxedo, but his shirt and blazer were off, thrown somewhere on a table and he was holding a chain that was very tightly swirled around another man’s neck. Boy and their toys – I rolled my eyes at the thought.

I paced in his direction like a general walking into battle and one of our guys saw me and a horrified look landed on his face.

“Miss…Miss Nucci.” He whispered and then looked at Hugo who still had his back turned in our direction. “Umm, Miss Nucci is here!” This time he yelled and Hugo heard him very clearly.

He turned slowly, not believing it was possible. His massive torso was uncovered, showing his tattoos, especially the new one he just had done on his neck – my name. He came home one night with my name in cursive embroidered on his skin. It was his way to show me that we were going to last forever. I could see that determination and love now when he was looking at me with that smoldering look in his eyes. My Monster.

“Princess…”

Ah, that’s all I got after waiting for him in front of a church for an hour and a half?

“Don’t princess me!” I walked to him and grabbed the chain out of his hand. “What in the name of the good Lord are you doing, you jackass! You left me on our wedding day to go and brawl? This is the stupidest, worst thing you’ve ever done, Hugo Mustafa! Why would you treat me like that?” The guy that he was strangling or whatever moaned something, and I yanked the chain to make him stop. “Shut up! We’re in the middle of something.”

“Catherinelle,” Hugo whispered.

“You’d better start talking, Mustafa, or I swear to God…!”

He came to me in one fast move and smashed his mouth over mine, sucking all the air out of me. At that moment I forgot why I was mad at him or why we were even there, or that there were a lot of people watching us. The only thing that mattered was us.

I dropped the metal chain and threw my hand around his neck.

“You have a lot of groveling to do after what you’ve pulled today, Monster.”

“You look…” He swallowed, “You are so beautiful, princess.”

“You ruined my wedding, Mustafa!”

“Is it that late?”

“Not late enough for you to get out of it so get dressed and let’s go. I once held a gun to my head for you, Monster. Today, if I have to, I’ll hold a gun to yours.”

He gave the other men around the room a look and nodded.
