“That you didn’t . . . that you didn’t want to.” Talking was becoming less of a priority.

Any ideas he had of her not wanting to have sex with him this morning fell by the wayside as she wrapped her fingers around his erection and guided it home. Feeling her pussy milking his cock as he pushed inside her had him longing more than ever to blurt out that he loved her, but he knew he couldn’t do that. Instead, he buried his face in her neck and repeated ‘I love you’ over and over again in his mind with each thrust of his hips.

Chapter 26

They slept until a little after eleven. Because Drew hadn’t been all that busy during his shift, he’d been able to get a decent amount of sleep. That didn’t mean that he was going to pass up the chance to spend a few more hours in Beth’s bed with her softness pressed against him.

That afternoon, in need of some clean clothes, Drew took Beth with him to his apartment. He was surprised to find Shawn there. The last time he’d spoken to him, it sounded as if he’d found an apartment.

“You’re home.” Shawn glanced up from the television. When he realized Drew wasn’t alone, he clicked it off and stood. “Hello. You must be Beth.”

She smiled. “And you must be Shawn. I’ve heard a lot about you.”

“Only good things, I hope.”

Beth pressed her lips together, brought her thumb and index finger in front of her mouth, and then acted as if she was locking her lips closed and throwing away the key.

“Ah. So it’s like that, is it?” Shawn glanced over at Drew. “I like her.”

Drew rolled his eyes. “Glad you approve.”

There was a lull in the conversation and a lightbulb seemed to go off in his friend’s head. “Did you guys need me to make myself scarce for a while? I can go catch a movie or something. Give you some privacy.”

“That’s all right. We aren’t staying. I just came by to get some clean clothes.” Drew leaned in and gave Beth a kiss. “I’ll hurry. Make yourself at home.”

Leaving Beth in the living room with Shawn, Drew scurried into his bedroom and gathered up enough clothing to get him through the next three days. He was eventually going to run out of clean clothes, but he wasn’t willing to sacrifice time with Beth in order to do laundry.

He was zipping his bag when there was a knock behind him. Drew looked over his shoulder to find Beth framing the doorway.

“Do you have a bag or something you could put your dirty laundry in? I have a washer and dryer at my place. You’re more than welcome to use them.”

“Are you sure?” he asked.

Beth strolled across the room and he was mesmerized by the sway of her hips as she walked toward him. When she came to a stop in front him, Drew had to remind himself that they weren’t really alone and that he needed to keep his hands to himself. She traced a line down the outside of his jaw with the tip of her nail, reminding him of Saturday night. Almost instantly, there was a lot less space in his pants.

“I’m sure.” The words barely left her mouth before her lips brushed against his.

“Okay.” He tried to breathe through the temptation. “Beth?”

“Yes?”

“Shawn’s still in the next room.” As the moments ticked by, that fact was becoming less important. His friend was an adult and it was Drew’s apartment. If he wanted to make love to his girlfriend in his bed, then he would.

To his disappointment, Beth put some distance between them. “I’ll wait for you in the other room. Don’t be long.”

It might not have been a command—they weren’t playing—but Drew still flew around his bedroom gathering dirty clothing wherever he could find it. In less than two minutes, he had his duffel bag in one hand and his laundry bag full of dirty clothes in the other. The only thing left to do was get Beth home as fast as humanly possible. If he was lucky, they could spend the rest of the day in her bed.

Over the next few days, the two of them spent what some might call an unhealthy amount of time together. If they weren’t working then they could usually be found together. Beth had help at the café so she didn’t need his assistance anymore. When Shawn had called to see if Drew could give him a hand moving into his new apartment on Wednesday morning, he’d jumped at the chance. It would be something to keep him occupied while Beth was at work.

Drew had never been in love before. The reality of it—the feeling as if he couldn’t get enough of her—wasn’t something he was prepared for. He’d experienced lust in the past. The physical attraction to Beth wasn’t what bowled him over. It was the wanting to see her roll over and smile at him first thing in the morning or having her give him that look when he was acting a little too playful.

He pulled up to his apartment at noon. Shawn was inside, packing up the few things he’d brought with him. The rest was in a storage unit a few miles away.

The two didn’t say much as they loaded everything into Shawn’s pickup truck. Drew hopped in the passenger side while his friend got behind the wheel. “Thanks for letting me stay at your place. I appreciate it.”

“Anytime. You know that,” Drew said. “Not like I’ve been at my apartment much lately anyway.”
