Kai gave Carson a stare that spoke volumes.Please leave, it begged.
Carson responded with the corner of her mouth lifted, glancing back at me.Get your own room, I imagined she would say.
To my surprise, she conceded, “I’ll let you two catch up.”
Carson scrambled off into the other room, and Kai stepped forward. He spread his arms out for me, and I hesitated.
“How have things been?” he asked, his arms still open.
I rose to my feet and threw myself into him.
I missed him. The longingness disappeared from my heart. I felt safe with Carson, but the feeling I had in Kai’s arms was a different form of safety. It was a warmth I couldn’t find anywhere else. Without it, I wasn’t freezing, but something was missing.
“Good, good,” I answered, inhaling his cologne deeply.
“And all that was about?” he asked.
“Carson’s teaching me how to defend myself,” I said, looking up at him.
He smiled wide. “I can help with that,” he said and gently kissed my cheek.
Chapter 30
Kai
“Ican help with that,” I said, kissing her cheek.
The lure was set. Now for the trap. I twisted my ankle behind hers, tripping her to the ground as gently as I could. I went down with her, pressing my weight against her.
A scream left her lungs, piercing my ears. She clawed at my back before she realized the floor was at hers. “Fuck you,” she grunted. “That isn’t fair.”
“Fights aren’t ever fair,” I said, struggling to hold her wrists down. She bucked her hips up, trying to roll me off, doing her best to showcase what Carson taught.
But she was still unskilled and floundered.
I leaned closer, my mouth to her neck. “I missed you, Audry.”
Her body shivered against mine, her breath uneven against my jawline. “I missed you too.”
I smiled at her words. The world always felt right by her side. We melted together into one another, compliments and opposites in all things. She kept me on my toes, and I flustered her even more.
I leaned up, letting her wrists go. “This is a common position you might find yourself in if someone, mainly a man, were toattack you,” I said, her knees on either side of my hips. “But, before they get here, there is something you can do.”
I pulled away from her. “Let’s say you are on your back, and they are ready to…you know…get on you,” I explained. “Place your feet right at the dip of the hip.” I grabbed both her ankles, making a ninety-degree angle with her knees. I placed the heel of her foot along the V of my hip and the other on the opposite side.
“Like that?” she asked.
“Yeah.” I nodded. “You don’t need a lot of strength from here. You have leverage. Where someone’s hips go is where they go. Now, I am going to try and move on top of you, and you keep me off, okay?”
She nodded, biting her bottom lip. I loved how she looked beneath me, but I only ever wanted her beneathme,not anyone else. I tried my hardest to get to her, but she pressed her feet deeper into the V of my hips, controlling my movements.
“Good girl,” I whispered, leaning back. Her feet fell to the floor, her knees partially spread.
Her grin stretched across her mouth as her eyes glistened with lust and bad intentions. “And if I want them between my legs?” she asked.
I moved in, pressing my weight against her. She wrapped her thighs around me, hooking her ankles behind me.
“The only person who should be between those legs is me.”
