He chuckles. “It’s not too much, but you’re just as beautiful without as you are with. I’d prefer you withoutthis, though. It’s tempting.” His tone is husky as he tugs at my dress. And then he does something crazy.

Alden starts tugging my dress upward, not stopping until it’s bunched around my midthighs. “I want you so bad, Mel.”

He keeps one hand on the wheel, while the other rakes down my now bare thigh.

Goosebumps trail behind his touch as he makes his way to my inner thigh. And then he brushes my damp underwear. “You’re already wet for me,” he groans.

I swallow hard as he pushes my underwear to the side, his finger dipping through my slit. I moan as he massages my clit, and then slips inside my pussy. “Oh, mygod.”

“I’m going to make you come right here.” He begins to finger fuck me, and I rock my hips in rhythm with him.

Pleasure pools in my core, and I shut my eyes, digging my nails into the leather door panel and console.

“Come for me, Melody,” he growls, bringing me to the edge.

An orgasm bursts through my body, and my pussy contracts around his fingers.

I let out a cry, and he groans, not removing his hand until I’ve come down from the high.

“You’re so perfect, Mel.” He smiles at me as I tug my dress down.

I blush furiously, my heart still racing from the pleasure. “I think the same about you...” My words come out shyer than I expected, and his eyes flash with an emotion that I can’t put my finger on. “I’m sorry. I hope that’s not too much.”

He shakes his head, though his gaze stays fixated on the road as he waves at the security guard.

Aiden navigates the residential streets to the cul-de-sac silently, leaving me to wonder if I messed up by returning the compliment. I mean, it seems unfair that he can say something like that, but I can’t...

“Are you hungry?” Aiden turns to me as the garage door begins to shut. “I haven’t eaten since lunch.”

I swallow the nerves, unsure of my appetite. “Um... I don’t know.”

His face softens as he turns off the engine. “Listen, Melody. I just... I haven’t been in any kind of relationship since Madeline, and we were married a long time.”

I nod. “I get it. I shouldn’t have said anything.” A lump begins to form in my throat, and the conversation with Fran comes back to my mind.

Maybe he doesn’t want me saying those things, because I’m not the only one he says them to. My heart sinks.

“No... It’s not that.” Dr. Banks lets out a sharp breath. “It’s just that I don’t know where this is going between us. It’s hard tofigure out how serious this is when we can’t even tell anyone that we’re seeing each other. Not to mention, you have Dorian. I have Connor. and a horrible custody battle ensuing. I don’t even know where to begin explaining that...”

I nod, trying to understand but also push away the hurt in my chest. “I guess I was naïve to think that it would be anything other than a fling.”

“I...” His voice trails off. “I never said... I just...”

I laugh dryly, shaking my head. I’m so stupid.

This man makes me want impossible things.

Things that I thought he wanted to. But I was wrong.

With my throat clogging, I ask, “Can you please just take me home? I’m not really in the mood for anything now.”

His lips part like he’s going to say something, but then shakes his head. He hits the garage door opener and then restarts the car.

“I need you to understand that if you weren’t a student, this wouldn’t be a question, Melody.” His tone is strained as he backs out of the driveway. “If my life wasn’t the mess it is right now, I would think that I finally got everything right.”

“It’s okay. You don’t have to try and make me feel better. I get it.”

“It’s the truth.” Aiden reaches across the console and grabs my hand, giving it a squeeze. “If I would’ve met you when I was in college, I would’ve fallen head over heels in love with you.”
