After moving all the money he had to an account that couldn’t be traced by the police, in case Harvey started screaming about that once he was in cuffs, we called the sheriff. Joel knew him, so did most of the talking when he got there, explaining why he was duct taped in the barn.

“He came ‘round ‘ere, wanted to hurt more people! I couldn’t have that, Sheriff!”

“No, you did good, Joel. Good!”

The sheriff was in awe, and with Javi hiding back in the house, he took Joel’s word that we three caught him, and they took Harvey away just as the sun was breaking the horizon.

When all was said and done, we offered Javi a place to stay, but he declined. “I got a few hours of traveling back to my boo. I’ll see you all later.”

We hugged him and Joel hung back while he did. Then Javi shook his hand. “You ever want a job, just call me.”

I set a hand on Joel’s shoulder. “He’s got one. He’s our new boy.”

Damon’s head whipped to me, then he smiled. “Yeah, what he said.”

“That mean we’re fuckin’?” Joel asked as he smiled at me.

“No!”

“I’d fuck him, but I’m taken,” Javi commented as he laughed.

“And your dude would literally kill you for even thinking that! Go home,” I told him.

Chapter Nine

“So, I’m yours now, huh? Well, that beats all. When we fuckin’?”

We had taken Joel to the porch to watch the sunrise and decompress ourselves from the evening’s events, but he was hyper. In fact, he was bouncing in the wooden porch chair.

“The rest still applies,” I sighed, tired of the explanations. “We need to know you first. Feelings, emotions, those are first, then the sex. And, besides, we need to teach you about the lifestyle a little more!”

“I knows all ‘bout it. I’m your boy, yeah? I gotta do what y’all tell me. I get it.”

“You must not,” Damon pointed out, sounding exhausted himself. “We just told you something and you’re arguing.”

“I can’t ask for sex?”

“You can, but if we say no, then it’s no. It’s not up for discussion. The things we can discuss are your limits, and until we get those, we wouldn’t think of fucking you.”

I was surprised that was Damon’s take, but then again, he wanted the feelings first too.

“Y’all ask that man in the woods his limits?”

“Sure,” I said. “we told him what we wanted to do, and gave him every opportunity to say no. We also gave him a safeword to use, if, while we were in the middle of it, it got too much for him.”

“Well, hells bells, boys, you got a strange way o’ doin’ stuff, but I’m game. So, teach me!”

“We’re going to bed,” I said as I rose from my chair. “Wanna come…to rest?”

“I ain’t a bit tired. Y’all get some rest. I’ll head over to Eli’s ‘n see iffin he needs me. See y’all later.”

I caught him before he could leave and gave him a sound kiss on the forehead after moving his hat then I replaced it. Damon gave him one on the lips next and he glowed.

“Y’all are teasin’ me, but I like it fine.”

Things happened pretty quickly after that night. Harvey’s arrest came as a surprise to Eli, but it made him and Noah happier than I’d seen them yet. After Eli’s visit to thank us, he told us Joel would be helping them out for a couple weeks, being they were calving and moving some stock around for grazing. That didn’t mean we weren’t going to see him, but for that time, he was much more sedate after working all day for Noah.

It gave us time to talk with him, and he told us all about his father, the drunk he’d been when Joel was growing up and the way he’d changed when he found God. Sure, he’d dried out, but he also became a bit of a fanatic. That set Joel off worse than the drinking.
