He smiled again. “I’m not far. Will never be far from you again. We have to run this bitch together since you finally have an interest in the family business.”

“Does Petra know?”

Xavier lifted his brows.

I concluded with a knowing grin. “That’s why she never returned my calls. She knew she couldn’t hold water, especially once I started crying.”

“Sorry, Baby Girl. Had to stay dead for a while. Sunny hated seeing you so broken with finding out about Pierre’s diabolic ass, so he begged me to at least tell you.”

I immediately turned around and hugged Sunny D. “Thank you.”

“Told you. Loyal to you.” He narrowed his eyes. Message received.

We talked a little longer, promising to connect soon before I passed the phone back to Sunny D. I walked out of the office to get some air as Pierre rolled back up, jumping out of the car and walking inside with an apology, “Sorry...sorry...shouldn’t have left like that. Going through a lot. Shit has been so fucking crazy. Promise to call you later and explain.”

I reached for my gun in the waistband of my pantsuit and pointed it at his chest. I took a deep breath and accused in a steely tone, “I know, Pierre. I know what you did to our brothers. I just need to know if you tried to kill me, too.” Pierre had never been able to lie to me when confronted.

Pierre held his hands out as Sunny D came out of the office with his gun drawn. He finally answered after a beat. “It wasn’t supposed to go down like that. Everything got so fucked. Please. I made a better leader than Xavier, and we both know he wouldn’t let me be the Boss. So I did what I had to do. It wasn’t personal.”

I yelled with all of my might. “You fucking, low-down bastard. Shooting your own brother in the head and bombing my house isn’t personal? You used Gavin to kill Cain. You wanted all of us to die. Who’s next? Mama and Daddy.”

Pierre’s eyes widened before he lowered them. “I made some bad choices, and I never wanted to hurt you. I didn’t have anything to do with the explosion. I wouldn’t kill you.”

I scoffed, “You are capable of killing siblings, so forgive me if I don’t believe you.”

His shoulders slumped. “I’m sorry.”

“Sorry for killing Xavier? Sorry for what? You took my brothers away from me for your own selfish needs.” Unable to look at him anymore, I lowered my gun. “You are no longer my brother.”

Pierre’s face crumbled. “No...no...I need you. You’re my sister. We’re all we have. We can run our empire together. Please Storm. We can move past this.”

Sunny D took a step closer with his gun. “Leave, Storm. I can handle it from here.”

I inhaled and exhaled deeply and walked out the door without looking back.

ON THE DRIVE HOME, my head pounded from all the revelations over the past month and all the devastating betrayal and loss of our two families. All because of jealousy, sibling rivalry, and power. The longer I drove, the clearer my mind became. I wouldn’t allow money, greed, or power to destroy my soul or my heart. And that started with making things right with the man who got me. He was the only one with whom I could share this unbelievable day, and he would get it. Isn’t that what relationships are about, finding the one with whom you can truly share your life?

The minute I stepped into the door of our condo, I excitedly yelled, “Bae?”

He walked in from the balcony, wearing only shorts and a concerned frown. “Is everything...” His eyes softened. “You haven’t called me by that nickname since we broke up.”

“I know. And everything is good, but at the same time, it's so very wrong. Do you get what I’m trying to say?” I strolled to him, wondering how I got so lucky to be loved by Gavin DeLuca.

He chuckled. “Crazy enough, I know exactly what you mean? My day might have been crazier than yours.”

“How long have you been home?”

“Got here around six. Only been home a couple of hours.” He ran his hand through his tousled dark hair, that only made his blue eyes more striking. “You hungry? I can hook up something.”

Gavin always took care of me. Back then and now. Seeing the kind yet wary look on his face endeared me more. He’d consistently been there for me even when he believed I didn’t feel the same. His love had been unwavering, and he was right to tell me he didn’t want a marriage with me if I didn’t give my all. I wanted the same in my husband. I scooped my arms under his and looked up at him. “Bae, I do need you. So much has happened since this morning.”

He whistled, displaying his deep dimples. “I can say the same.”

“What happened when you called Enzo?”

“Can I tell you after we eat?”

“Only if we get in the bed together, and I snuggle against you while we talk. After we eat.” I pressed my lips on his lips before kissing his neck. He was mine, and I was his.
