Rose clawed at his arm and dug her heels into the floor. Vulture simply picked her up and tossed her into the wall. He made sure the panel closed before she could lunge at him. Rose bit her tongue to keep from screaming. She was every bit as capable as any of those men were. Rage coursed through her body at the injustice of it all.

Rose found nothing when she felt the length of the door. There were no hinges she could pry apart and no latch to release. All she could feel was the smooth wood that trapped her in the dark hole. The only way out was for someone to open it from the outside. She was going to remind them who they were dealing with. Just as soon as someone let her out.

Chapter 11

Rose had no way to tell how long she had been stuffed in the wall. It seemed like hours. All she knew was she was stuck in a hole that was barely big enough for her to stand in. Her shoulders were hunched awkwardly, and a spider was eyeing her up. She was going to happily kill Birdy. After she got to pee. She would be dancing if she had room to do the potty dance. Vulture was going to be sorry. Ladybug too. Bunny was safe only because of Franny.

Her reign of terror would be brief but vicious. They would talk about it for decades. Rose would be immortalized in songs and legends, like the Boogeyman, only better. The day two bikers got their asses handed to them by a woman half their size would be marked as a holiday. It would be worth the trip to the cabin.

The sound of footsteps interrupted her plans of revenge. Rose held her breath. No one she knew shuffled their feet like that. All the guys wore big black clunky boots. They could sneak up on someone, but no one had an odd shuffle when they walked. Even Franny and the free P, hoe-leaders, didn’t have a stride that matched the person in the room with her. It was a detail Warren taught her to notice. She knew something wasn’t right.

A quiet scraping sound filtered through the wood. Whoever was on the other side of the wall knew about the hiding spot. Rose froze. The panel shifted when they pushed on it. It was little comfort that the person on the other side didn’t know how to open the secret hideaway. They knew it was there. Tank was right. The club had someone on the inside working against them. Rose had a feeling she knew just who it was. Birdy. It made sense. The grouchy attitude, the call she overheard, sleuthing around in the dark, it had to be him.

Feet kicked at the door that kept her hidden. Something awful must have happened if they were no longer worried about being quiet. Rose took a deep breath and readied herself. She sparred with Warren after they were first married. This would be no different. Pulling her hands up and crouching the best she could in the tiny space, Rose got ready to attack. The intruder was going down the second the door popped open. Eliminate the threat, then make a quick dash to the bathroom before there is a puddle on the floor of Bunny’s office.

When the blade of a knife slid along the seam of the door, the latch released. There was no time to wait. Rearing back as far as she could in the tiny space, Rose kicked the door, catching the intruder unaware. A grunt followed a muffled curse.

“Bitch. You broke my nose.”

“That’s not all I’m going to break.”

Rose lunged out of the wall, tackling the unsuspecting man to the ground. Straddling her attacker, she ignored the crooked nose and landed a solid punch to the throat. His gasp brought a smile to her face. Jumping to her feet, Rose tried to run for the door. The man gasping for breath was quicker than she anticipated. His hand wrapped around her ankle and brought her back down to the floor. The intruder was on her before she could move.

“Payback is a bitch,” he wheezed as he swung a closed fist at her.

He was too close. There was no way to avoid taking the punch. Rose flailed as pain radiated through her face, making her dizzy. She had to get away. This was not how she was going out of the world. Not if she could help it. Rose jabbed her thumb into his eye. His hand instinctively flew to his face, releasing her. The shot that rang out barely registered in her brain until the attacker’s body slumped to the side. Rose gasped for air, pulling sweet relief into her lungs and letting it out. She shoved his body off hers and turned to see who was at the door. Vulture cautiously stepped into the office with his gun trained on the man who was now bleeding out on the floor.

“It took you long enough.”

Rose didn’t give him time to respond before she rushed past him and down the hall to the bathroom. She didn’t care that people stared as she tore out of the office. It was puddle on the floor in thirty seconds, and the clock was ticking down fast time. Her head leaned on the stall when she finally made it to the bathroom. Rose was just finishing up when the door creaked open.

“Rosey, sweetheart, you okay?”

“Fine, Ladybug.”

Rose flushed and exited the stall, looking more relieved than she had in her life.

“Anyone, and I mean anyone, ever locks me in the wall again; it will be the very last thing they do. Got me?”

“Honey, that is going to bruise,” Roach frowned, running his fingers across her face and cupping her other cheek in his big hand.

“It’s fine.”

“Kill that bastard for putting his hands on you.”

“I think Birdy beat you to it.”

“Lucky bastard.”

“Not before I broke his nose and stuck my thumb in his eye.”

Roach moaned with a pained look on his face.

Rose leaned closer to him and whispered, “I also throat-punched him.”

“Damn, Rosey. Honey, I want you so bad right now.”

“Still married.”
