He couldn’t help but laugh. Shaking David’s hand, he saw the other man off, and then headed inside.

The kitchen staff was busy at work, and he nodded at them as he passed. Going toward the library, he expected to find Tamsin curled up with a book, but the room was empty. The movie room was as well, and there was no sign of her in the dining room. He made his way upstairs toward the bedroom and bathrooms, but there was no sign of her.

Just as he was about to go back downstairs and check the gardens, his cell phone rang. He saw it was Jacob Denton, and he was tempted to ignore it, but instead something told him he needed to answer this call.

“Hello,” he said, already taking the stairs downward.

“Is Tamsin with you?” Jacob asked.

“Yes, why?” Mason stopped at the bottom of the stairs as he looked out toward the gardens, but there was no sign of her.

“She called earlier today, asking questions about the Delcoties and war,” Jacob said.

This made Mason freeze and he went to his office. Rounding his desk, he saw the Denton’s number as clear as could be, and then as he looked at the next number, he froze.

“I had to explain to her the position we’re in. The Dentons have business with the Delcoties—”

“I need you to be quiet.” He needed a moment to think. There is no way Tamsin would be so stupid as to go to his father.

“I don’t know who you think you are—”

“I don’t care about your position with the Delcoties. We both know you would use any means necessary to get rid of me.” He threw the contents of his desk to the floor, anger rolling down his spine. “Tamsin is not here,” Mason said.

“What? You just said she was.”

“I have a feeling my wife has gone to my father.”

“What do you mean?” Jacob asked.

“I believe Tamsin is going to try to kill Paul Savonas tonight.”

He hung up his cell phone and went out to one of the guards, and he confirmed it. Tamsin had climbed into one of the cars and left, nearly two hours ago.

“Fuck! Shit!”

There was no way Tamsin could do it. She was too young. He couldn’t allow her to have blood on her hands. He would be the one to do it, and when he did, he’d set her free.

Chapter Fourteen

Paul Savonas’s home was beautiful. Tamsin had always liked it, she just didn’t like the man attached to it. One of his guards helped her inside, and moved her toward Paul’s office.

After calling to arrange this meeting, Tamsin had gone to her and Mason’s room, and picked the most revealing dress she could. It came to just above her knee, and pulled in her chest, giving her an impressive cleavage and leaving nothing to the imagination.

This is a mistake.

Turn away.

You cannot do this.

One thought of Mason, and she squared her shoulders. Entering Paul’s office, she saw that he wasn’t there.

A power play. Landon had told her all about these. At first, she felt completely out of sorts, like she shouldn’t be here, because this was a big fucking mistake.

Brushing some of her hair off her brow, she took a deep breath and got herself together. It didn’t matter if this was a good or bad thing. She could do this. She had no choice. For the good of their families, she had to stop a war.

His desk was tempting with several different sheets of paperwork out. She didn’t know if he was attempting to test her, but either way, the only business she had today was personal.

I can do this.
