“Not much for the day. Same as any other.” Denis nods to a woman who passes, offering her a friendly smile and a wink. Her cheeks turn a rosy shade of red as she stares at him for a moment longer.

I scowl, kicking his foot. “We’re here for business. Stop trying to get laid.”

“I’m not trying to get laid. If you want us to get caught because some woman remembers two cranky men watching an apartment building, then be my guest.”

Denis smirks and tilts his chin up, admiring another woman walking by.

Fucking hell. I should have just come out here alone!

She will have just gotten home from her job, settling into her routine of searching her apartment.

If she had done a better job of checking her apartment, she would have known that Denis was in there yesterday. She would have seen that things were disturbed. I told him to leave a couple of small things out of place, hoping that she would notice.

I want her to be scared when I see her again.

She should be fucking terrified.

“Which apartment is hers?”

He jerks his chin to the building. “Fourth floor. Last door on the left.”

“Have the cameras around the building been disabled?”

As much as I would love a memento of what’s about to happen, I can’t risk anyone having evidence.

I have very little interest in spending any time in prison.

Denis nods. “Disabled but looping with footage from the day before. The blend is seamless. If anyone were to check the cameras, you were never here.”

My smile is sinister as I stride toward the building, Denis trailing behind me. We climb the stairs, nodding to the other residents we pass. They give a brief grin before continuing their way.

Denis looks at me as we reach the fourth floor. He glances through the window before pushing open the door.

The floor is silent, and nobody around.

I let him lead the way to Anna’s apartment.

He stops in front of her door, covering the peephole with some tape. The tarnished gold number hangs crooked, a crack in the base of the door where it looks like someone tried to put their boot through it.

Not a bad place to kick if she refuses to open the door.

“Who is it?” her soft and sweet voice calls through the door.

I fucking missed that voice.

After months of craving her, she’s finally within my grasp. I’m going to have my little bitch right where I want her.

Denis clears his throat. “Andy,” he says, raising his voice a little higher to mimic the young boy next door.

I stand to the side of the door, wanting the element of surprise when Anna opens the door.

The lock thuds as it turns, the door opening wide.

“Andy, I didn’t think—”

She pauses in mid-sentence; her amber eyes grow large as saucers and she swallows hard, her gaze wanders over to Denis before she glares at me.

I smirk and step into her path, cramming my foot in the door before she can slam it shut. “Hello, Anna. Miss me?”
