Simona twists her lips to the side in reply.

Ignoring her glare, I ask the nurse, “What’s her temperature?”

“One hundred.”

“We need to check her blood for signs of infection. I’d like for you to do a urinalysis also. Make sure I get the results from the lab as soon as possible.”

She raises a brow, but replies, “Si.”

Simona’s watching our exchange, her eyes a little more focused than earlier.

“She’s going to collect a urine sample.”

Her eyes flare. “You are NOT sticking around for that.”

“Fair enough. I’ll be outside.”

After a few minutes, the nurse leaves and I return to the room to find Simona looking upset.

“What’s wrong, babe?”

“Babe?” She huffs. “So, since you're the doctor, I guess I need to tell you. The pain in my shoulder is getting worse.”

“It’s almost time for another dose of medication.”

“What did you give me?”

“Naprosyn.”

“English, please. Or Czech would be even better. I know one thing, I’m not getting shot again.”

“I’d prefer that. Especially on my watch.”

She half grins. “What, did this stress you out?”

I step toward the bed. Being pulled toward her by some magnetic female force. “You stress me out.”

Her grin grows as she leans back against the pillow. “Do I?”

“Yes. You do.”

“Why’s that?”

“Because I vacillate between wanting to kiss you senseless and spank your ass for being such a pain.”

She presses her lips flat to hide her smile. And my body hums like an engine waiting to take off from the start line. “You’re maddening,” I say as I plant my hands on the bed beside her head and lean toward her.

Those icy eyes spark. “Me? You’re the problem.”

“We may have to arm wrestle over this.”

She smirks. “I’d win.”

“Hardly. Have you seen the size of my guns?”

That gets a chuckle from her. “Maybe.”

Ah, so she does notice me…
